Watching Television Week 36 of 2018

Week 36 went from Sempteber 2nd to the 8th and as usual most of my television watching occurred either via streaming or timeshifted by my TiVo.

Favorites from Week 36 of 2018

As I mentioned most of the shows I watched were either streamed or time shifted so not everything aired this week.

Castle Rock– this show is really turning to be excellent. Sissy Spacek and Scott Glenn are superb and the recent episode, The Queen, could easily be up for an Emmy – it was that good. Time slips, kidnappings, unexplained occurances, dementia, and of course a Steve King mystery all play a wonderful role in this episode.
Jack Ryan – the first 2 episodes of this show were rest but the it seeed to slow down. After the first 2, I was expecting more of a 24esque Jack Bauer but the action wasn’t consistent and the pacing lost a bit of cohesion. I’m also not sure I’m over Jim from the office as my secret agent. I’ve still got a few episode to go but while I might have rated this close to an A- after the first 2 episodes, I’m now thinking it’s more of a B-.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia – this show premiered it’s 13th season September 5th and it’s still the crude and rude show its always been. While this has never been one of my favorites, I’ve always enjoyed it. Sex dolls, distasteful political jokes targeting both sides, and grand plans to attack the bar down the street make this a familiar place of comfort for another season.

People of Earth – apparently TBS has cancelled this show so there will be no third season. This really saddens me since this was one of the few comedies I really enjoyed. The whole concept that aliens were real and the way they were portrayed as incompetent was unique and refreshing. I guess they will never learn the facts of their abductions and we’ll never learn what the alien overlords really want. Oh well.

Ghosted – This is another of the few comedies I watched and for some reason, another of the cancellations I recently heard about. This quirky buddy cop show centered around a government agency that deals with the paranormal and unexplained was a cool homage to The X-Files and was hilarious. Too bad the network didn’t give it more of a chance.
