1 for four in Detroit

Andrew Heaney had one of his worst outtings of the year giving up 5 runs in the first inning in the series finale leaving the Angels 1 for four in Detroit.

Goodbye to May

After going 16–12 in March and April, the Angels hit a road block in May, going 14–15. They really just slowed down on offense and the bullpen started showing signs of overuse. Many players fell into slumps in May but there are signs some may be coming out of it.

Ian Kinsler waited until he was back in his former home stadium to do it but he’s raised his batting average significantly in the last few games. He’s gone 9–14 in Detroit and raised his average from .178 to .217.

As a team, they enThere’d the month in a fight with Houston for 1st place in the division but with their poor performance, they’ve been struggling to stay in third place and hold off Oakland. They 5.5 back now and have been going in the wrong direction all month.

I’m sure as a team they’re happy to welcome June and I’m certainly hoping the new month brings a new attitude and a new reality for the team. They really need to turn things around before they get any worse since there’s still plenty of time for them to make up the ground.

Today the Angels come back home to take on the cellar dwellers of the AL West and hopefully this’ll be an opportunity the team takes advantage of…breaking outta their home troubles and starting off June on the right foot. And the right foot begins with rookie Jaime Barria (4–1 2.97 ERA) who goes against veteran Bartolo Colon (2–2 3.55 ERA). You won’t see many matchups with 24 years difference between the starters but this should be good…Colon is still pitching well at 45. Hopefully youth will win out.

As it was, I’ll give my Player of the Game to Kinsler and I hope he keeps resurgence – he’s starting to hit like the leadoff batter the team needs.
