Previewing Unlimited Reading

Daily Ramble 207: Previewing Unlimited Reading

Today I preview the upcoming home stand seres for the Angels against the AL East leading Red Sox and I’m hopeful to see the Angels win it. I also take a look at the weekly releases for Marvel Unlimited as I try to figure out what I want to read this week. Finally, I jot down my book reading plans for the month even though it’s half over and I’ve already read through 3 of the novels.

Plan for April Reading

It may be a bit late but I’ve been working towards this plan all month. I’ve actally just finished by 3rd book and am cruising along to try to get through all 7.

  • Daughter of the Empire by Raymond Feist – starting the Empire trilogy
  • Foundation by Isaac Asimov – getting into the Foundation proper
  • Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury – for the SciFi and Fantasy Bookshelf
  • Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny – for SciFi and Fantasy Book Club
  • We Are Legion (We are Bob) by Dennis E. Taylor – for Sword and Laser Book Club
  • The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory by Brian Greene – for Science and Inquiry Book Club
  • Hillbilly Elegy by JD Vance – for History Book Club

Red Sox vs. Angels

Boston shows up at the Big A today and it looks to be a huge showdown for the early season. The Angels are sporting their best start ever and Boston also happens to be playing their best. Between the two, they’ve only lost 5 games outta 31 on the year and their leading their respective divisions.

The pitching matchups feature some heavy hitters…

  • David Price (2.40 ERA, 11 K, 1.00 WHIP) vs. Shohei Ohtani (2.08 ERA, 18 K, 0.46 WHIP)
  • Rick Porcello (1.83 ERA, 17 K, 0.76 WHIP) vs. Tyler Skaggs (1.69 ERA, 17 K, 1.19 WHIP)
  • Eduardo Rodriguez (3.72 ERA, 15 K, 1.45 WHIP) vs. Nick Tropeano (0.00 ERA, 6 K, 1.20 WHIP)

And I kinda have a feeling they’re tilted in favor of the Sox, particularly since the Angels pitchers didn’t throw as many innings. Once you get into the bullpen though, the Angels have a 2.45 ERA vs. Boston’s 4.19 so I think the Angels have the edge there.

At the plate, the two teams are powerhouses…

Stat Red Sox Angels
BA .275 .291
OBP .348 .344
SLG .447 .482
HR 13 26
Runs 89 103

So I’d give a slight advantage to the Angels for that.

Boston has faced better competition so far but the Angels are playing at home, so I’d say on the whole, either team could easily take the 3 game series.

I just hope to see the Angels put up some good numbers and dominate.

We’ll see…
