Daily Ramble for March 10 2025

Today in my BTG Seven, I ramble on about March Mammal Madness, Absolute Batman, Gerrit Cole, and more running, among other things.

Baseball Spring training is in full swing, and as usual, there are some big surprises. And speaking of surprises, Absolute Batman #1 has been out for a while and puts an interesting twist on the Caped Crusader. I continue my Exercise Ring and purchase new running shoes while my Move Ring looks at something I eat almost daily. I briefly look at the first March Mammal Madness division and the calendar of events, but first, I rant about losing an hour of sleep.

Daylight Savings

The U.S. Government does many things, some good and some bad, but I thought they passed a law a few years ago that eliminated the idea of losing an hour of sleep every Spring. Apparently not! Or rather, the Sunshine Protection Act was passed unanimously in the U.S. Senate in 2022, which would make daylight savings time all year round. The problem is that the House of Representatives hasn’t passed it, so it sits out there like other good ideas in limbo because the government tends towards ineffectiveness.

MMM Calendar

Things are starting in March Mammal Madness and will get crazy fast. Today is the Wild Card match between the Flying Frog and the Northern Flying Squirrel, and as far as I know, anyone can win this contest.

Here’s the calendar of events, but the big thing to know is that today is when you want to have your bracket picked out and ready to go…before the Wild Card match of course.

The Only Ones

This division includes mammals that are unique in that they are the only species in their genus living today. There may have been other species in the past, but they are all alone in 2025. These include the Puma, the Maned Wolf, the Chacoan Peccary, the Star-nosed Mole, and the Mountain Beaver, among others. Here are the bracket matchups.

Move Ring Closed

Today, in my Move Ring, I take a simple look at a favorite meal of mine – oatmeal. Eat it for breakfast or lunch; it doesn’t matter to me; I always find it filling. Particularly with the fixins I sprinkle in. Beet powder, pepita seeds, flax seeds, and apple sauce all contribute to a yummy food I eat almost daily. Sometimes, I’ll even throw in some peanut butter for added protein, but even without it, I get 4 grams of protein to go with 19 grams of carbs to give me the energy for my running. Two grams of fat is not bad, and zero added sugars are great! Two minutes in the microwave, and I’m good to go for hours.

Exercise Ring Closed

While that oatmeal fuels my running, my feet must have some good shoes to beat the pavement, and I chose Brooks as my primary shoe supplier. I always have two flavors of running shoes that I alternate every other run, but the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24 is my favorite. Soft and supportive, this shoe should last me 4-500 miles, though I am pretty sure I wore my last pair for over 1000 before the wear and tear forced me to upgrade.

Cole to have Surgery

Speaking of wear and tear, Gerrit Cole will miss the entire season due to Tommy John surgery. While the Yankees are pretty stacked for pitching and offense, they were not able to beat the juggernaut Dodgers in the World Series last year, and now they may have trouble returning to the Big Show. Maybe they should have gone the extra mile to resign Juan Soto.

Absolute Batman

I’m just getting started on my venture into the latest DC ‘All-In’ event, but the first issue I’ve read of Absolute Batman was pretty good. The idea is that this Absolute Universe has a Batman who is not a rich playboy and Alfred who is not a butler. We’ll see how the story evolves and if Bruce Wayne can piece together all his cool gadgets on a tight budget.

So there are my BTG Seven for the day. A little ranting, some excitement, some exercise and nutrition, a bit of schadenfreude, and a touch of anticipation. Let’s see where the rest of the time goes.

With that, Tannhauser Gate is open for the day. I hope you all have a good one!
