Blaugust 2022 Day 6
Today was going to be another day of blog reading, but I realized that being a weekend, I spend a lot less time reading blogs and more time playing or trying to play games. Today fell into that later category – trying to play games.
I found myself with some serious preparation paralysis and spent all my time today researching instead of playing games—the result…no coverage of the Blaugust blogs and no coverage of actual gameplay. I simply studied to get ready to play Minecraft and Skyrim.
I suppose I could have pushed RambleClaw forward in LOTRO since I already knew what I was going to do and where I was planning on doing it in that game, but I wanted to kick off some of the other games I am planning on playing in August.
So what did I learn about Skyrim and Minecraft? Well, I learned that there is a toxic element to Minecraft that can be found on some of the public servers, so I am gonna steer clear of those. I was surprised to find this out, but I figured if I was gonna start playing Minecraft, I should listen to a podcast or two on the game. I found The Spawn Chunks, which a couple of sites recommended, and their current episode mentioned chat restrictions on some of the public servers. I suppose that in any game where people can interact, there will be some subset of people who want to cause trouble for others. I’ve seen it in Warcraft, League of Legends, Eve, and now Minecraft. Sad to see, but humans seem to be consistent.
The good news is that there will be none of that in Skyrim! As a single-player game, I don’t have to worry about any chat troublemakers or toxicity. I’m gonna stick with single-player Minecraft as well, so I don’t have to worry about how many times I get called a Newb.
Anyway, I think that was my biggest takeaway today…people will be toxic in any game. Hopefully, tomorrow I can start up my single-player instances of both Minecraft and Skyrim. I can’t help but play LOTRO in a multiplayer environment, but then I have grown accustomed to blocking out anyone not in my guild there.
I wonder if there is toxicity in Animal Crossing? Anyway, on day 6 of Blaugust, I learned that toxicity seems to be everywhere. I thought Minecraft was a game for kids too.
