Obi-Wan Kenobi starts on Disney+
Obi-Wan Kenobi was one of the best characters to come out of the first Star Wars movie 45 years ago, and I was happy to see his character fleshed out and expanded upon during the prequels. Now we get to see him in a new TV series and learn about how he helped shape the future of the Jedi between the Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and I’m looking forward to learning more.
The Rundown
First off, here are a few things of interest for today…
- Ohtani’s One Inning Curse
It certainly seems like Ohtani is a great pitcher, except for one inning every game he throws. This time around, it was the 3rd inning where he gave up 3 runs on a walk, 2 singles, and a double. Other than that, Shohei struck out 10 Blue Jays and looked to be in control. And, of course, that was the only walk he gave up all night. If he can learn to stop his one-inning curse, he could be a great pitcher.
- The Witcher is Making a Comeback
The Witcher 3 got off to a slow start in my Rambling Redshirt’s Gaming Madness tournament. After the first quarter of play, the Witcher found itself down by 4 points in a match it was clearly favored to win. It’s been a struggle, but it looks look perhaps this competitor is ready to take the lead and move into the second round – we’ll see how they do in the third quarter later today.
- New Seasons of TV Shows
This time of year seems to be a time of new seasons for TV shows. We get the new Obi-Wan, Stranger Things gets a new season, Orville is coming out, The Boys show up in June, and I just love all the new options. Shows I thought had run their course are still around, and I’m glad to see new seasons of For All Mankind, Holey Moley, and RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars. So I guess while last week I was complaining about Netflix and all the good shows they canceled, at least there are other good shows that are still around on other platforms.
The Goods
Obi-Wan Kicks Off
While there are a bunch of new seasons starting for some really good shows, I think the one I am anticipating most is Obi-Wan. I guess the show was actually available last night, but I didn’t see that until it was too close to my bedtime.
I think the idea is that we are gonna find out what happens with Kenobi between the last prequel movie and A New Hope. How does Ben protect and support a young Luke Skywalker, and how does he ensure that Darth Vader never finds out about him?
What about Leia? She supposedly goes off to Andor to become a princess and is adopted by Bail Organa and his wife. Does Ben ever leave Tatooine to make sure she is safe?
And what about Yoda? The next time we see him, he’s on Dagobah waiting for Luke to seek out a master Jedi – what’s his deal during all these years? Does he ever come out of that jungle to say hi to his old friend Ben?
Perhaps all these questions have been answered in the animated series over the years or in novels or comics, but I haven’t kept up with them well enough to know any of the answers.
I’m just glad we might get some answers in this series.
It’s a Wrap
I’m looking forward to Obi-Wan and seeing what kinds of new details we can get about the time between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
In any case, I’m looking forward to making the rest of today a good one, and I hope you all have a great day.
