The Finale of the Disco and the Start of the Division
The first seeded contest kicks off today, and we get a new victor in one of the Wild Card fights. Will Disco Elysium take a victory dance, or will Death Stranding come from behind to carry off a win?
Around the Tournamemt
Today we have 3 matches to look at, two Wild card fights, and a brand new seeded contest featuring number 8 versus 9.
Cyberpunk takes the Lead
Half-Life 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 finished off the first half with a 48 to 48 point tie. With the third-quarter targets based on Steam, blogging coverage and population, Cyberpunk has an edge since it’s a much newer game. They leveraged that edge to gain a slight advantage in points during the quarter to end up with a 73 to 72 lead. This is a very close battle headed into the 4th-quarter tomorrow.
Disco Holds On
Death Stranding put up a good fight in the 4th-quarter on the Wild Card Under contest scoring 24 points. It was still under the baseline 25 points, but it did score higher than Disco Elysium. The Disco ran into some problems during the quarter but turned out a 22-point showing which was enough to hold on for the victory.
Disco Elysium wins Wild Card Under over Death Stranding in the lowest-scoring match so far…93 to 90.
The Pre-Game Warmup
Europa Universalis IV is the latest installation of a storied franchise that focuses on historic real-time strategy with exploration, trade, warfare, and diplomacy. It was released in 2013 and has seen numerous DLC and expansions over the years to expand and enhance its gameplay. While I have never played the game, it and the previous version have been on my “want to play” list for years.
The Division 2, on the other hand, is a first-person action shooter that sends you out through the devastated streets of Washington D.C. after a virus. Enemy factions have marched on the capital in hopes that they can overcome the reduced defenders and take over the country. You are there to stop them…
I have played about an hour of the game and enjoyed what I experienced, but at the time, in 2019, I did not have a system capable of playing the game well. I’m pretty sure I can handle it now, so I would totally be on board to give this thing a run to completion.
The First Quarter
As always, the first quarter focuses on Metacritic scores, and while Europa Universalis is only a PC game, it comes in with a solid 87. The Division seems like it kinda spread out development because it comes in with an 84 score but also received 82s on Xbox and PS4.
The Rolls
EU4 gets things rolling with an 18 to Division’s 59, so The Division takes a 4-point lead in the 1st-quarter.
The Score
Division leads 26 to 22.
Wrapping it Up
Three solid matchups today. With the victory of Disco Elysium, they will be facing off against number 1 seeded Undertale in their next contest, while Half-Life hopes to come back in the 4th-quarter against a strong Cyberpunk opponent. And then we have the first seeded contest, which sees The Division cruise to a 4-point lead over Europa Universalis.
Next up, I’ve got the final quarter of the Wild Card Winter match, and I kick off the next seeded battle between number 8 – Legends of Aria, and number 9 – Guild Wars 2.
