Frustration with Netflix
Today, I vent my frustration with Netflix while enjoying the shows coming out on Hulu. My Angels lose one they should have won, and my Rambling Redshirt’s Gaming Madness tournament continues with a first-quarter win by Divinity and the kick-off of Star Trek Online versus Black Desert.
The Rundown
First off, here are a few things of interest for today…
- 41 Whacks with an Ax
This 5-night miniseries (Candy) actually ended on Friday, but it was a bit overwhelming to watch 5 episodes of a show about a killer on back-to-back nights. Don’t get me wrong, the story was well told, and the acting was great. I would not be surprised to see Jessica Biel winning some kind of award for this role. In any case, we finished watching the series Monday night, and I have to say…you just can’t write something like that – it has to be pulled from the headlines. If you’re looking for a good TV show about an ax murderer, check out Candy on Hulu – it certainly made me happy to have a subscription to the service.
- Thor implodes
My Angels started out well on Monday, and I was expecting them to cruise to victory against a mediocre Texas team. Instead, their pitching imploded after being handed a 3 run lead in the first inning. Noah Syndergaard took a nice lead and gave up 6 runs in the bottom of the first to basically hand the Rangers the win. At least it was his first bad outing of the year…and Houston lost as well, so we’re both still tied for first in the AL West.
- Divinity Takes a Lead
After the first quarter of their battle, Divinity Original Sin 2 takes a one-point lead over Forza Horizon 5 in the first wild card match of my Rambling Redshirt’s Gaming Madness tournament. While each combatant started with a base of 25 points and had the possibility to make it to 30 based on their Metacritic scores of over 90, the RNG gods did not look favorably on either game.
- Kicking off the Star Trek Online versus Black Desert Online battle
With the first quarter in the books for one wild card contest, today I start up the second. STO and BDO both come in a less than 80 on the Metacritic score, so neither will have the possibility of 30 points. Regardless, they get started later today with a baseline of 25 points. Black Desert is the favorite, but I am pulling for STO.

Frustration with Netflix
While I may be happy that I am subscribed to Hulu, I’m not feeling so hot about another of my streaming subscriptions. Cancellation of Raising Dion, the cancellation of Cowboy Bebop, the cancellation of Mindhunter… These are some of the things that are increasing my frustration with Netflix.
While the company complains that they are losing subscribers because people are sharing accounts, I disagree. People have been sharing accounts for years, and that did not reduce their subscriber levels before now. I think it’s all the cancellations of good shows that are driving people away.
My personal habits are leading me to seriously consider leaving Netflix as well.
While I accepted the phenomenon that was Squid Game, I refused to watch Tiger King, and those three shows that I mentioned are key shows that I really have been enjoying. Well-written, well-acted, critically acclaimed, and I get to see them canceled by the Netflix executives. What are these guys doing? I’m starting to feel like Netflix in 2022 is the Fox Network from the 90s that consistently canceled good, solid, well-scripted programming in favor of crap reality shows and cheap imitations.
Does Netflix really think they’re going to keep subscribers and make money by canceling good programming?
I haven’t shared my account, nor have I shared the account of someone else, but my frustration with Nexfix is rising to the level that I very soon may have no account.
It’s a Wrap
As I wind down my rambling today, I have to say that I am hopeful that Netflix will adjust it’s behavior and stop canceling good shows…maybe even bringing these programs back. With Hulu knocking it out of the park with shows like Candy and The Dropout, I am much more likely to stick with them while I vent my frustration with Netflix.
In any case, I’m looking forward to making the rest of today a good one, and I hope you all have a great day.
