The Battle of the Bats

The 2022 March Mammal Madness tournament kicked off last night with the Battle of the Bats. The Mexican Free-Tailed Bat faced off against the Florida Bonneted Bat. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a battle for the ages, but I’m pretty sure Batman was interested.

Suffice to say that my pick, the Mexican Free-tailed Bat, managed to pull off the win. He was pretty much the underdog since the match took place in Florida instead of New Mexico, where he spends his time, but with the Florida Bonneted Bat in his home range, that also meant that his natural enemies were also in the area.

Fortunately, the local owls hunt the Florida Bonneted and don’t bother too much with strangers allowing the Free-tailed Bat to emerge victorious.
