Found the March Mammal Madness 2022 Calendar

It’s hard to believe that this is the 10th year that the March Mammal Madness tournament has run, but I’ve been paying attention to the contest since 2016. For six years, I’ve been taking a look and setting up my brackets in an attempt to pick the mightiest mammal in the tournament.

It hasn’t always been mammals, though. A few years ago, the selection committee decided to start adding animals that were mammal adjacent. Then birds and reptiles were added, and I’m pretty sure anything goes at this point…even mythical and fictitious creatures. The bottom line is that it’s a fun science thought experiment that makes people think about the animal world, ecosystems, and who would come out victorious if a Grizzly Bear had to fight a Chupacabra.

In any case, the March Mammal Madness tournament for 2022 is shaping up nicely, and the scientific team has released a calendar of events.

I’m looking forward to seeing how things play out this year and what the combatants look like. From the calendar, it seems like there will be at least one bracket that features groups of animals, so this could be a pretty exciting tournament.
