Running Away and Running Towards
Today I’m continuing my adventures in LOTRO, the Eye of the World, and my virtual running around California. In LOTRO, I start gearing up for the main story quest and reach another level. In the Wheel of Time, we meet Mordeth and learn more about Shadar Logoth, and in my virtual running, I get a dose of history from an area I thought I knew pretty well.

Back in Bree-Land
Yesterday we took our leave of Ered Luin and we will undoubtedly miss the Dwarves of Gondamon. Pangolyn and I are ready to get back to Bree, though, and are looking forward to meeting back up with Strider.
Before we jump back into the main story quest, though, we decide to finish off some of the quests in Bree-land on the way back to the town. Fighting brigands and half-orcs around the countryside provide a good release. It also gave us some focus so we could be ready when we made it back to Bree and met with the ranger.
These quests also boosted Pangolyn up to level 15. That will put us on par with the target level of “Unravelling the Thread,” which is the first main story quest we’re looking to tackle tomorrow. We’re looking forward to it!
Mordeth in Shadar Logoth
I, for one, would never consider wandering around a deserted city that is falling apart regardless of whether I was using the city as a safe place that monstrous Trollocs and Fades refuse to enter. Rand, Matt, and Perrin have no problem diving right in, however, and of course, they get into trouble in this Must Read chapter of the Eye of the World.
While the two people who can defend the group are resting, the three boys go out exploring in chapter 19, and they meet Mordeth. This stranger lures them into a basement with promises of treasure and unsurprisingly turns into a fantastical beast. He attacks the boys, and they barely escape as the lights go out.
Moiraine is quite upset they went wandering off, but her fury turns to concern when they mention Mordeth. The boys were fortunate they escaped, but it may all be pointless as Lan returns in the night with news that the Trollocs and Myrddraal have overcome their fear and are searching the city for them.
They’re gonna have to try to leave the city in the middle of the night, and no one is looking for adventure as they load up the horses.
Finding History
Southern California has plenty of amusement parks and flashy locations, but every once in a while, it’s nice to take a break from the craziness to step back in history. The Founder’s Park in Anaheim fits that bill.
The small park is only open on the first Saturday of each month, but it looks pretty cool. Historic windmills, classic architecture, and hmm, I never knew Anaheim was considered a Colony back in the day. Apparently, it was founded back in 1857 and was primarily vineyards until a blight wiped out over 400,000 grapevines between 1884 and 1888. Who would have thought a city in Orange County started with grapes.
Anyway, the Mother Colony House – the oldest wood-frame building in Orange County is an excellent place to run by as I run around California.
It’s a Wrap
Leveling up, running through history, and reading about crazy kids turned today into a fun day. I’m looking forward to meeting back up with Strider in LOTRO, seeing where my running takes me tomorrow, and how the fellowship escape Shadar Logoth in chapter 20.
Overall, today was a good day, and I hope you all had an interesting and enjoyable day as well.
