A Duke Rages and a Gaming Drought

Things are getting pretty hectic lately with work and life in general, and I have had very little time to get into gaming recently. I’ve still got my characters making their way in LOTRO, SWL, and FFXIV, but I haven’t been able to run an entire game session even if I only keep it to a 30-minute trek. With that in mind and in my determination to endeavor for consistency in my posting right now, I am gonna continue with my rambles on reading Dune and get back into my gaming comments when I’ve got time to play a few sessions and put together my thoughts on things.

A Duke’s Rage

After the attempt on Paul’s life and the secret messages from the Bene Gesserit and the Shadout Mapes, it’s clear that the Duke’s family is in mortal danger.  In chapter 11, we see a Duke filled with rage and despair.

He’s furious that the Harkonnen and, in his mind, the Emperor have attempted to kill Paul.

But at the same time, I get a sense that he recognizes some of the futility of fighting against so many powers. In public, he is the strong and confident leader, while in places where he is alone, he is starting to show how tired he is. His dreams of having a classless society where his family can thrive are beginning to slip away.

This chapter is a bit slow but shows insight into the person that the Duke is, so I rate it a solid Read.
