Trips to New Places

The trip to Arrakis was fairly anticlimactic since it all happened offscreen between chapters 6 and 7 but we find ourselves on the Dune planet finally and I’m looking forward to seeing how the Atreides deal with the Harkonnen traps. One thing that seems clear is that while the Bene Jesserit may not explicitly be on the side of the Duke and Jessica, they did set things in motion generations before that will help out their son on the planet.

But if fights were what I was interested in, there have been none in the book yet and I am just now getting into combat in Final Fantasy. As I accept more and more quests, I am finally using my abilities to take on the flora and fauna of Eorzea.

Finally on Arrakis

After 6 chapters we have finally arrived on Dune and get to see what all the fuss is about. But before we see Paul in his new habitat, we get a glimpse at the relationship between Duke Leto and Lady Jessica. Both are strong personalities but it’s nice to see that they are both united in their concern for Paul.

We also learn of the Missionaria Protectiva who were sent out by the Bene Gesserit decades and centuries before to prepare the way for this day. They planted stories that have become myth and legends that have become a religion on Arrakis. And those tales are so strongly believed by the Fremen that one of their highly placed leaders, the Shadout Mapes, insists on being present when the Atreides arrive so she can determine for herself if Jessica is the promised one.

This chapter is a bit more nuanced than the previous few but I’d still call it a Must Read.

Exploring Nearby Areas

After spending my second game session with Melodi Miao running around Limsa Lominsa performing errands and learning the layout of the city, I ventured out into Lower and Middle La Noscea today. I also got my first taste of combat as I fought some evil little ladybugs and wharf rats.

It was not too much trouble moving through the couple of quests I picked up that finally had me utilizing my abilities but it was nice to finally see what my combat skills were. One thing that has me a bit concerned though is the cooldowns. While I did not see hardly any movement on my mana bar, I did notice that I was prevented from spamming my abilities by cooldowns. We’ll see if this continues but I’m not sure I like that limitation…I’d rather be limited by the amount of mana I have but hopefully this won’t be a long term concern.
