Blaugust 2021 Day 1

On the First Day of Blaugust 2021…

This year, the start of Blaugust finds me in a strange situation. I’m currently not focusing on any particular game. I’m not reading any particular comics. I finished off my last fiction book two weeks ago and haven’t chosen a new one and I haven’t read a non-fiction title in a few months. I’m not even finding my name and blog listed on the Blaugust roll call – yet.

Basically, I have a lot of openings for stuff to do and blog about, and yet I feel like I am really busy.

So I wanted to take this first day of the event to figure out where my time has been going and where I might start focusing a bit of my leisure time.

I suppose work has been taking a bunch of my time lately and since I’ve started going back to the office, I’ve dedicated myself to making sure I spend more quality time with Mrs. Redshirt.

With a reduction in my free time and a shift in my priorities, I’m finding that my level of idea generation and writing has fallen off. I don’t have the time in LOTRO or WURM, reading X-Men or Batman, or even stepping through the Foundation series to really keep my posting up consistently.

I am counting on Blaugust to change that.

I think the thing I’ve learned most from previous Blaugusts has been that when you set a goal to publish a post every day, things become more streamlined…because they have to. I find I can dive into a game for 30 minutes and revel in the fact that it helps generate multiple post ideas. I can work through content ideas while I’m reading a comic or watching my Angels lose another baseball game. I can listen to podcasts that always have things I want to comment on or I can listen to the audiobook I purchased months ago while I’m getting in my morning run. And then there are all the fellow bloggers publishing content that spurs on my imagination.

There’s always time to find content, draft posts, and publish interesting things during Blaugust. I just need to work on carrying that mindset around before and during the event.
