Grafting Trashcans
With the first game between the Angels and Astros this season, things got pretty interesting. Fans were tossing inflated trash cans on the field, there were plenty of BOOS, and it was fun watching my team put the Astros in their place. They really should have been punished more for cheating than the slap on the wrist they got.
In any case, it was a fun game to watch and I got to read another couple chapters of The Rook as well.
Grafters Everywhere
While Myfanwy met with one of the Grafter leaders the last time I read, this time, she gets the full monty and ends up covered in slime. Apparently she has something the Grafters want and they’re only willing to give her 3 days to return it to them.
Even worse, after the incident at the dinner party where a traitor was revealed, everyone in the Checquy are being required to undergo extensive testing for Grafter implants. We know Myfanwy is no Grafter agent but her coworkers need to make sure. And the tests are not a lot of fun.
Trashcans in the Outfield
The trashcans were in abundance at Angel Stadium on Monday as Houston made it’s first appearance in Anaheim since they got off with a ‘stern talking to’ as punishment for their cheating. The fans that made it to the game made it clear they were not happy with the Astros and I felt there was a strong dislike for the commissioner as well.
The good news for my team was a 4 run rally in the 8th that pushed them over the cursed Astros. Mike Trout also knocked his first HR of 2021, and for the most part, it was a good day. Sure, it could have been better – Quintana got smacked around for 5 hits and 4 runs, but the bullpen held on for the first Angel win against the cheating Astros in 2021.
It felt good.
The West is the Best, Day 5
Day 5 of the season was not a good one for the West Coast teams that played other divisions. Toronto beat Texas 6-2 and Chicago shut out the Mariners 6-0. Inside the division, the Dodgers kept cruising along with a 10-3 win against Oakland and Oakland is looking like they really need some help.
The big story of the day was Dustin May’s pitching debut for Los Angeles. 8 strike outs and no runs over 6 innings made for a dazzling start for this youngster. He definitely lived up to his promise in his first outing. The Giants needed a trio of solo home runs – from Raf, Yastrzemski, and Longoria – to overcome the Padres 3–2. Seattle could not figure out Chicago’s pitching and only managed 3 hits, while Texas tried to mount a comeback in the 9th but fell well short.
It’s a Wrap
5 Days into the season and things are a lot of fun. My Team is playing well, the West is performing well, and I am chugging along in my reading. Now I just need to get back into my gaming and comics and I’ll be a happy camper.
