2021 MMM Round 1: Tricksy Taxonomy Results
The 2021 March Mammal Madness entered it’s second day yesterday and boy…was it a day of upsets.
Advancing on to the second round are: the Dugong, the Mountain Tapir, the Tarsier, the Red Wolf, the Solenodon, the Jaguardundi, the Egyptian Fruit Bat, and the Musk Deer.
I got worked in that round! I got whooped in 4 out of 8 of the matches and I was pretty surprised. I suppose the fact that there were 2 major upsets in the bracket might account for my poor showing but I think I should have been able to pick better. Who would have thought that the 12th seeded Fruit Bat would have more patience than the 5th ranked Baboon? Or that the number 13 seed, Solenodon would stick around in the arena while the Civet, ranked 4, ran off to feed? I suppose these matches show how the little things can really make a big difference in March Mammal Madness, and how the small guys really have the drive to win.
The play-by-play for all the Tricksy Taxonomy Round 1 matches can be found here while a video recap can be found here.
With 17 matches in the books, I’ve picked poorly in 6 of them…not a good record. Perhaps with a weekend break my selections will improve.
