Running to the Coronado Bridge
On feature in San Diego that hasn’t been negatively effected by COVID is the Coronado Bridge.
Actually, it’s kinda gotten a breather since there has been significantly less traffic on the bridge since COVID started because of all the shutdowns.
The bridge is about 3.6 miles from The Stein Family Farm that I ran by yesterday but that’s kinda as the crow flies. Running the roads takes a bit more than 7 miles.
The bridge was built between 1967 and 1969 and at the time it was one of the longest prestressed concrete/steel girder bridges in the world. Now it’s pretty much a signature piece of the San Diego skyline.
One cool thing about this stop in my Running California challenge is that there is actually a race that occurs on the bridge. Of course, this year the event is virtual but I think I might just sign up for it…The Bay Bridge Run/Walk takes place virtually in May 2021. It’s the 34th time the event is being held and I think it’s a cool idea to run across the bridge.
If you’re interested in running or walking the virtual event, take a look at their website – they even have a training challenge to help you get ready for the event in May.
