Closing Out A Non-Normal Week
Well, this has been a crazy week, and I only yesterday started to get things back to relative normal. Funny how normal has been redefined these days.
In any case, I got the chance to jump in and get some more Horizon Zero Dawn progress, though I’m still a long way from even leaving the starting area. This game is beautiful and fun, and I know I’m gonna stick with it on the PC.
My other main accomplishment this week was getting back into reading again. I finally finished off Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James… and while it was an interesting book, it was not really one of my favorites. I kinda felt like it was a chore to read through it, and I’m certainly glad it’s over now. While I would not call it a bad book at all, I would not say that I’d look forward to reading anything else by the author and certainly would not be interested in continuing any kind of series tied into this book.
Lure Compliments Silent Strike Well
Yesterday I mentioned how awesome Silent Strike is for killing off machines in Horizon Zero Dawn. Today. I want to say that Lure Call is a great compliment to the strike.
Basically, Lure Call lets you single out a machine to target for Silent Strike. It calls over a machine…usually all by itself… bringing it within range of Silent Strike. The two work great together, and for the most part, they allow you to kill things without much fear of reprisal.
Reading Again
So, after finishing off Black Leopard, Red Wolf I jumped into 1632 by Eric Flint. While Black Leopard was a book recommended by one of my book clubs, 1632 is a book I’m re-reading. I’m pretty sure I would never have read Black Leopard if it were not a book of the month selection, and I most certainly would not have finished it. Normally, my book clubs turn me on to authors or genres that I would not usually read, but they turn out great…this time, they let me down.
In any case, I decided to jump into a re-read of 1632, which, if I recall, was a fun diversion read. It’s the kickoff to the Ring of Fire series, which is an alternate history universe where a town from West Virginia ends up in 1631 in Germany in the middle of a war. Cars, trucks, swords, and the Holy Roman Empire all make appearances, and I recall enjoying the story. I don’t recall when I read the book…probably while I was in college, but I figured after the sludge that was Black Leopard, I should read something I know I’m gonna enjoy.
I’ll keep you updated on my progress.
Promptapalooza Prompt Day 14
Today is also day 14 of Blaugust, or rather it is the fourteenth day that we are posting a prompt for Promptapalooza. While I have been trying to post the prompts, I haven’t always had a chance to answer the posed question…oh well. In any case, this year, Belghast over at Tales of the Aggronaut has suggested a different format…we’re gonna be posting writing prompts each day to get things rolling and to see the different perspectives on various topics in gaming, pop-culture, media, and fandoms.
The prompt for today (which I’ll tackle tomorrow) from Chestnut over at Gamer Girl Confessions is:
What are some of the things that get you excited in life?
I’m hoping to put on my thinking cap tonight as I sleep to figure out what to say.
It’s a Wrap
I feel pretty good heading into this weekend. I’ve picked back up on my reading, and I am making some headway in Horizon Zero Dawn. Hopefully, this weekend will grant me some time to reach some of the goals I have for gaming and offer me the chance to read a few comics as well.
