Blaugust/Promptapalooza Day 5

Blaugust has been a blogging event that has been around for a few years now and I’ve been happy to participate. Every year, and sometimes twice in a year, gaming bloggers, pop-culture bloggers, media bloggers, and pretty much any type of blogger has a chance to come together and share their experiences about blogging. It’s a lot of fun and I love the community that it has spawned.

All kinds of content are represented in the blogosphere and today, Everwake over at Everwake’s Internet Adventures takes a look at the rituals people follow.

Before I look into my thoughts about the question, a little preamble…

Promptapalooza Day 5

Normally about this time of year I would be working on Blaugust and trying to figure out how I am gonna keep up with all the blogs that are posting everyday. This year, I think I’m in a similar situation except we’re all following a series of prompts that Belghast over at Tales of the Aggronaut has put together or that people have come up with on their own.

I kinda like it. Not only do we get a bunch of different perspectives on some cool themes but we also get a chance to explore different blogs.

Maybe this will even get me back into my Six Degrees posts when the dust settles. I used to really enjoy traveling through six degrees of blogging and if things work out well, I think I’ll jump back on that in September…But for now, we have Blaugust: Promptapalooza.

Routines

For this fifth day of Blaugust we have a prompt about the routines you follow…

Everwake posits:
Everyone has specific rituals that they follow, tell us about one of yours.

I certainly have my share of rituals but I think the one that has been the most important to me though this COVID pandemic has been my Miracle Morning.

I learned about this ritual a while ago…months, years…I don’t recall, but it has really been good for me. It’s based on a book by Hal Elrond and while I began with the suggestions in that book, I’m not so sure I am following that recipe after all this time.

The idea is to layout a series of activities that you do each morning right after you wake up. In the book, I think it goes something like…Listen to some silence, perform some affirmations, visualize your day, read a little bit, and exercise. At least that’s what I think the book says…it’s been a long time since I’ve read it and I’ve modified my ritual to fit me.

In the end, I think that is the basic idea. Put together a ritual that you follow every day that you get done first thing in the morning.

The ritual I follow goes something like…Pray, Affirmations, Visualize and plan my day, Be Grateful for what I have, Read a little, and Exercise.

I have mixed things up over time and sometimes I’ll throw in some Meditation with the Calm app or listen to some classical music, but for the most part that ritual has helped me deal with all the anxiety, fear, uncertainty, and chaos that we’ve been going through with this COVID thing.

Luckily I had already made this ritual a habit and was performing it every day before COVID destroyed what was normal.

It’s a Wrap

I’m interested in hearing about the rituals and routines that people follow. I know there are plenty we see every day – sports starts, religion, news personalities – but I’d like to learn about the smaller things that people do to get ready to blog or face a day of COVID.

I think it’ll be interesting to see how Blaugust works out this year. We already had Blapril and I think that was a resounding success but we’re all still socially distancing because of COVID.

With everyone still indoors, I think Belghast has come up with a great idea for Blaugust and I’m all onboard. We can interact and stay distanced by promptapalozzaing.
