Blaugust/Promptapalooza Day 4
Blaugust has been a blogging event that has been around for a few years now, and I’ve been happy to participate. Every year, and sometimes twice in a year, gaming bloggers, pop-culture bloggers, media bloggers, and pretty much any type of blogger has a chance to come together and share their experiences about blogging. It’s a lot of fun, and I love the community that it has spawned.
All kinds of content are represented in the blogosphere, and today, Roger Edwards over at Contains Moderate Peril takes a look at content that is underrated.
Before I look into my thoughts about the question, a little preamble…
Promptapalooza Day 4
Normally about this time of year, I would be working on Blaugust and trying to figure out how I am gonna keep up with all the blogs that are posting every day. This year, I think I’m in a similar situation except we’re all following a series of prompts that Belghast over at Tales of the Aggronaut has put together or that people have come up with on their own.
I kinda like it. Not only do we get a bunch of different perspectives on some cool themes, but we also get a chance to explore different blogs.
Maybe this will even get me back into my Six Degrees posts when the dust settles. I used to really enjoy traveling through six degrees of blogging, and if things work out well, I think I’ll jump back on that in September…But for now, we have Blaugust: Promptapalooza.
Underrated Content
For this fourth day of Blaugust, we have a prompt about influences on your worldview…
Roger Edwards posits:
What type of content do you feel is severely underrated?
This one is a difficult topic for me to wrap my head around.
For me personally, I think the written word has been getting the short end of the stick in the past few years as so many people have moved on to podcasts, streaming, videos, and other media.
We’ve seen it in Blaugust and in the Blogosphere every year…good, well-crafted blogs disappear because people lose interest in either reading or creating. Fewer new faces show up to write their thoughts, and many just want to become rich or famous.
Just like my thoughts on Fortnite and battle royale games the other day, 99.9% (maybe even more) of the blogs out, there will not make anyone money. And once again, most streams or podcasts will not make someone famous.
But back to the written word. I may have Siri read someone’s post or use my newsreader to convert the posts into speech, but there is something completely different about a written blog post and a podcast or vlog. Sure, these forms of media are enjoyable, and I listen/watch many, but I think they tend to get all the glamour. Sitting down, collecting your thoughts, and writing out a coherent blog post, that’s where I prefer to focus.
Definitely, I would have to say that I believe written blogs are severely underrated, and I’d like to see more of them.
It’s a Wrap
In actuality, I’m happy for any content that people throw out in the blogosphere. Anytime someone puts their thoughts into a form to express to others, I think it’s great, and I’d like to see more of it.
I think it’ll be interesting to see how Blaugust works out this year. We already had Blapril, and I think that was a resounding success, but we’re all still socially distancing because of COVID.
With everyone still indoors, I think Belghast has come up with a great idea for Blaugust, and I’m all on board. We can interact and stay distanced by promptapalozzaing.
