Watching some Trek and Treking up California
Today I continue my run up California and add more than double my mileage. Ha ha ha…it was only about 3.5 miles yesterday so that wasn’t hard. I also watched the next episode of Star Trek as I’m pushing through the first season of the original series.
Running
Following up on my running from yesterday, I start off in the town of Nestor along the I5, about 3 and a half miles up from the Mexican border. While I mentioned the Salt Works yesterday, I actually did not make my run-by of them until this morning but I kept going.
Here’s a website that talks about the Salt Works in more detail and it has some cool pictures. Apparently it’s a big deal for the Fish and Wildlife folks since tons of sea birds come by every year. And here’s a neat video that I think was taken with a drone…
Today, I was able to log another 3.53 miles so here’s where I’m at along Interstate 5…
In looking at the map I see the San Diego Country Club and I didn’t realize so many things in San Diego were from the 1800s. This place was established in 1897 and is considered a top 200 golf course.
There’s also the beautiful Imperial Beach Pier along the trip today that I though would be nice to look at.
In any case, I’ve now traveled a smidge over 7 miles, 7.02 to be exact and I’m seeing some sights I’ve never seen in San Diego before. I think this is kinda cool.
Exchanging Women for Crystals – Is that ok?
Star Trek Season 1 Episode 6
Mudd’s Women
Written by Stephen Kandel
Directed by Harvey Hart
First Aired: 13 October 1966
This episode almost seems like the crew needed a bit of a break from all the intense voyages they’ve been on. With space monsters that can impersonate crew members, teleporters splitting people in two, psychics who manipulate people with their minds, and viruses that induce drunken craziness, it’s about time the crew got a little bit of a lighter mission.
In this one, they’re chasing down a smuggler, Harvey Mudd, who blows up his ship trying to escape. They rescue the crew before the explosion only to find the smugler is escorting 3 beautiful women as his ‘cargo’. As the crew deals with these ‘too gorgeous’ women, it just so happens that the Enterprise needs some lithium crystals to kept flying around. The only place in the sector that has these crystals is home to a few solitary male miners who decide they’ll only trade the crystals to Mudd who will give them the women.
The story ends up being a look at beauty, desirability, loneliness, and self-confidence and while Kirk gets his crystals he also takes Mudd back to the authorities. And while the men seem to get what they deserve in the story, I wonder if the women actually get what they want?
Promptapalooza Prompt Day 4
Today is also day 4 of Blaugust or rather it is the second day that we are posting a prompt for Promptapalooza. Yup, this year, Belghast over at Tales of the Aggronaut has suggested a different format…we’re gonna be posting writing prompts each day to get things rolling and to see the different perspectives on various topics in gaming, pop-culture, media, and fandoms.
The prompt for today (which I’ll tackle tomorrow) is:
What type of content do you feel is severely underrated?
I’m hoping to put on my thinking cap tonight as I sleep to figure out what to say.
It’s a Wrap
I may only be up to the 6th episode of the original Star Trek but I’m really getting a sense of nostalgia. Back before there was streaming television I used to watch Star Trek every night as it was aired on local channels. Now I get to watch whenever I want and it’s great. I’m even looking to put together my own ranking and of episodes, but that’s a way off…at least after I get through the first season.
