Blaugust/Promptapalooza Day 3
Blaugust has been a blogging event that has been around for a few years now, and I’ve been happy to participate. Every year, and sometimes twice in a year, gaming bloggers, pop-culture bloggers, media bloggers, and pretty much any type of blogger has a chance to come together and share their experiences about blogging. It’s a lot of fun, and I love the community that it has spawned.
Many people’s outlook has been shaped by pop-culture and media and Mailvaltar over at MMOs, and other stuff takes a look at how a person’s worldview can be influenced by the interests they have.
Before I look into my thoughts about the question, a little preamble…
Promptapalooza Day 3
Normally about this time of year, I would be working on Blaugust and trying to figure out how I am gonna keep up with all the blogs that are posting every day. This year, I think I’m in a similar situation except we’re all following a series of prompts that Belghast over at Tales of the Aggronaut has put together or that people have come up with on their own.
I kinda like it. Not only do we get a bunch of different perspectives on some cool themes, but we also get a chance to explore different blogs.
Maybe this will even get me back into my Six Degrees posts when the dust settles. I used to really enjoy traveling through six degrees of blogging, and if things work out well, I think I’ll jump back on that in September…But for now, we have Blaugust: Promptapalooza.
Star Trek Influences My Worldview
For this third day of Blaugust, we have a prompt about influences on your worldview…
Mailvaltar posits:
What are some key sources of media (games/movies/etc) that have shaped your worldview?
The most influential media that has shaped my worldview has to be Star Trek.
The optimistic vision of the future with people of all races and species working together for the good of all has really influenced my outlook on life.
The whole Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations mantra really appeals to me and my sense that when people work together, they can accomplish anything.
I mean, we went to the Moon…we’ve landed rovers on Mars…we’ve cured smallpox and polio…we’ve looked into the farthest reaches of space and back into the past to the very beginning of the Universe. When people work together for the benefit of all, there is nothing we can’t do.
We can even overcome this nasty COVID pandemic that we’re dealing with. Even now, as people suffer, we are developing vaccines and treatments that will eradicate this scourge, but it’s because we are working together, with a common cause.
That’s what Star Trek is to me…humanity working together for the benefit of all.
And while that may not be a reality right now, Star Trek gives me the hope that someday we will get to that ideal.
It’s a Wrap
I think it’ll be interesting to see how Blaugust works out this year. We already had Blapril, and I think that was a resounding success, but we’re all still socially distancing because of COVID.
With everyone still indoors, I think Belghast has come up with an excellent idea for Blaugust, and I’m all on board. We can interact and stay distanced by promptapalozzaing.
