Mapping My Runs

Today’s gonna be a bit brief since my time is accounted for for the most part. I’ve got housework, yardwork, and I kinda need a bit of a break. So I’m take it easy today and try to narrow the focus of my ramble to my current fitness routine and my gaming of the system.

This past week of Running

Last week continued my daily running routine and I’m still feeling pretty good about it. I managed to log over 24 miles with an average of 3.5 miles or so a day. While running, I used the time to listen to audiobook this week and finished off The Once and Future King by T. H. White and started up Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James. The former was a lot of fun as it covered King Arthur and his round table. Lancelot, Guinevere, and Merlyn all make appearances and it was interesting to rehear a story that I’ve kinda known for a long part of my life.

I’m just starting the book by James and it is not something that I am completely enjoying. It is definitely for mature readers and while I will push my way through it (because I hate having books I don’t finish), I am pretty sure this will never make one of my top book lists.

Running and Gaming

As I was running and listening to audiobooks I also thought about gaming and how I might incorporate gaming into my fitness and I think I figured out a way. It may not really be gaming but I think the way I am looking towards tracking my running is kinda like a game.

I’m gonna start tracking my mileage as though I am running across California.

I’m thinking I’ll start down at the Tijuana border and head North. As I’m going, I’m gonna try to highlight some of the areas I would be running through as though I was taking a trip to the area and checking out the sights.

For instance, today’s run went for 3.49 miles.

That would take me from the border crossing in San Ysidro up Interstate 5 to a town called Nestor.

Now, I’m sure I’ve driven through Nestor a few times, actually quite regularly back when I was going to UC San Diego and would go down to TJ to watch and bet on Jailai, but I never knew the name of the city. Nor did I know that the South Bay Salt Works that is in the town has been operating since 1871 – that’s like forever in California.

In any case Nestor looks like a good place to finish off my first day of running.

Promptapalooza Prompt Day 3

Today also day 3 of Blaugust or rather it is the second day that we are posting a prompt for Promptapalooza. Yup, this year, Belghast over at Tales of the Aggronaut has suggested a different format…we’re gonna be posting writing prompts each day to get things rolling and to see the different perspectives on various topics in gaming, pop-culture, media, and fandoms.

The prompt for today (which I’ll tackle tomorrow) is:

What are some key sources of media (games/movies/etc) that have shaped your worldview?

I’m hoping to put on my thinking cap tonight as I sleep to figure out what to say.

It’s a Wrap

The jury is still out on wether I’ll do my running tracker thing every day, once a week, or what but I think it’s kinda a cool way to keep a eye on how far I’ve actually ran. I remember that after running a marathon I would always be surprised how far 26.2 miles is when I’m driving on a freeway, but when I’m running 25 miles a week, I’m sure I’ll get on up the state of California pretty quickly.
