Thursday at ComicCon@Home
Wow! This so far has been a great Comic-Con 2020. The @Home portion of things is a bit strange but I can actually get to the panels I want to see without having to fight lines, run from one end of the convention center to the other, or jungle bathroom passes. It’s actually kinda cool.
Legion M
The first panel I looked in to was the Legion M: How We’re Opening the Gates to Hollywood and I was impressed. Not only was the panel informative but it was well produced. Apparently the panels have been in the works by some of the participants for over a month and it shows. We’ve got cut scenes, editing, and splices of other video footage. It’s pretty slick and I’m thinking they might want to add a category to the Eisner Awards for Comic-Con Panels. Actually, I’m kinda surprised they don’t have one already.
In any case, the best part of this panel was the celebration of Stan Lee and the concept of Legion M really impressed me.
Legion M is a fan-owned entertainment company and they seem to be making it work. Getting past the bureaucracy of Hollywood executives gives this organization a chance to make entertainment media the fans actually want and I’m excited for them.
The Stan Lee’s hand and footprints at the Chinese Theatre and the celebration of his great impact on comics, movies, and fandom was really nice to see. And I didn’t know this was the company behind the Memory: The Origins of Alien documentary.
The panel was informative and entertaining and for my first ComicCon@Home panel, it was great!
Gaming Together
The Transforming Together Time: Family Gaming and the Future of Play panel was an interesting one. One of their infographics mentioned that there will be over 3 billion gamers by 2023. That’s quite a few and while I figure most of them will be in the mobile market, I am hoping to see some coming into the MMO and RPG sector so we can keep up with the AAA titles.
Another blurb indicated that since COVID, gaming has increased as a part of world-wide entertainment by 75%. Now this I can totally see since there are tons of games to be played and you can only watch Seinfeld and The Office so many times and I was never impressed by that lion guy show either.
In any case, this was a pretty good panel that I’d file under informative and engaging. It was not one of my top pick of the day but it turned out to be one I remember.
Marvel HQ
Ok…there should be a lot that was good to learn about at this panel but the biggest thing I took away was the art.
They taught me how to draw Venom and I was impressed. They certainly make it look easy and though I am a really bad artist, I think I could follow along well.
It’s a Wrap
Thursday was jam packed with things to watch and I didn’t;t have the time to catch them all yet. I’m certain holy hopeful that the videos are left on YouTube after the ComicCon@Home event so I can catch up on what I missed. Regardless, I got to see some cool stuff and I mention a few of the things I saw today.
So far, ComicCon@Home has been a success as far as I can tell.
