Preview Night at ComicCon@Home

It is here…

COVID will not stop the Signal…

San Diego Comic-Con 2020 will not be thwarted…

We are ready for ComicCon@Home!!!!

And WE WILL PREVAIL!!!!

First Steps

Typically during this time I would be checking my battery packs, ensuring that I have decent food, and double checking the schedule so as to make sure I knew my options. This year, instead, I’m checking my iPad, stocking my refrigerator, and actually trying to figure out my fantasy baseball draft that is happening in July. I don’t have to worry about parking or taking the trolley to downtown San Diego. I don’t have to check the expiration date on my sunscreen or the UV rating of my umbrella. This year, I can sit at home in my comfy chair and watch multiple panels at the same time if I want. I can even watch Opening Day of the MLB season tomorrow on one screen while I watch Comic-Con panels on my iPad…this is actually great!

What I Will Miss

Sure, there are plenty of things that I will miss because of COVID and being forced to have ComicCon@Home, but I’m happy for what I do have.

I’ll miss out on the exhibit hall. Not getting to see The Tick booth for the 20th year is a bummer. Rubbing elbows with 100k of my fellow fans is a no-go this year. And I will certainly miss my mezzanine pictures…I’ve got a bunch from previous years so that won’t be too bad.

I also will miss out on all those steps. I usually get in well over 20k steps each day and without walking back-and-forth in the exhibit hall or across the street to give at the blood drive, I will not get even close to the level of steps I usually put in during Comic-Con.

How Preview Night Went

With all the @Home preparations and examination of the schedule, ComicCon@Home is finally here. In reality, I did not select any of the panels for today but rather would be happy to catch any of them that were available.

And it seems like they’re doing things in a really good manner.

Most of the panels are showing on YouTube and if you go to the Comic-Con International channel, you can see all the videos.

The good news is that they seem to be making the videos available as their time slot comes up and then they are leaving them available for viewing afterwards.

I’m hoping they leave them up even after ComicCon@Home is over but we’ll see.

It’s a Wrap

I was meaning to put together some of my thoughts on the panels that I watched but I ran out of time. Of course that’s typical about these days of Comic-Con wether it is @Home or at the convention center. hopefully I’ll be able to get things put together so I can give you some highlights of what I saw and maybe if the panels are still available, you can check things out yourself.
