Thursday at Comic-Con @ Home 2020
This year because of the COVID pandemic, there is no Comic-Con down at the San Diego Convention Center. That place is actually full of people that need assistance – either housing or medical. But the bottom line is, with the virus floating around there is no comics convention in downtown San Diego this year.
That is not stopping Comic-Con from going forward though.
Instead of the annual trek to the pop culture Mecca, we are instead able to participate in the wonderful yearly event from the goodness of our homes.
This year we get…Comic-Con @ Home.
Thursday Morning @ Comic-Con@Home
While the first day of Comic-Con is usually Preview Night, and there is indeed a few ‘events’ scheduled for Wednesday, the first full day is Thursday, just like always.
While I’m not 100% certain about how they’re gonna work all the details out, I do know that a bunch of the panels will be available on YouTube. There may be some other streaming services as well, but I’ve mostly heard about YouTube.
And I’m surprised to learn about how many panels there are gonna be. There are actually over 100 panels on Thursday alone, and I want to see so many that I’m considering taking the day off work like usual.
Here’s a rundown of the panels that interest me on Thursday.
At 10am to 11am
- Building a Geek Brand: Surviving a Pandemic
- P.S. NPC: Storytelling in Video Games
- Star Trek Universe Virtual Panel
At 11am to 12pm
- Cartoon Network Studios: The Art of Storyboarding
- Hollyweird Science: Creativity, Correctness, and Collaboration
- Web Comics: Saving the Entertainment Industry, Four Panels at a Time
Thursday Afternoon @ Comic-Con@Home
From 12pm to 2pm
- From Script to Screen: Behind-the-Scenes of Your Favorite File & TV Shows
- Amazon Prime Video: Utopia
- How Every Epic Fantasy Can Be…Epically Different
At 2pm to 3pm
- Amazon Prime Video: Upload
- Horizon Zero Dawn Comes to Comics
- The Adventure Zone: Petals to the Metal Graphic Novel
From 3pm to 7pm
- Brandon Sanderson Spotlight
- The Boys Season 2
- The Blacklist Draws on Animation to Complete Season 7 Amid CoVid
- The League of Extraordinary Scientists and Engineers: More Science in Your Fiction
It’s a Wrap
I’m looking forward to giving these panels a look. It’ll probably be a much nicer experience than having to wait in lines all day, but we’ll see how the Comic-Con network can handle things.
And I know one thing…I will miss the Exhibit Hall. That’s always one of my favorite experiences every year. Climbing the stairs to the Mezzanine and taking my standard picture of the whole con…trying to get to the Tick booth to get all my cool gear for the year, and looking for my friend’s booths.
It won’t be the same, but I’m glad they are putting on this @ Home version.
