NEW STORY ARC
Writer JASON AARON and artist R.M. GUÉRA return to the stark and brutal world of THE GODDAMNED for the long-awaited second chapter of their biblical-noir epic. Genesis 6:4. “…the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men. And they bore children to them…” In the time before the Great Flood, the world of man is a place of wanton violence and unbridled depravity. But hidden high atop a mountain, there is a very different sort of world. One without men. Here, the holy sisters at a secret nunnery live in paradise, a new Eden, rearing their flock of orphaned girls to embrace their future as blessed Brides of the Sons of God. But when Sharri and Jael, two girls on the cusp of flowering, uncover what it truly means to become a Bride, they realize there’s only one way to escape the bonds of matrimony: run like hell. - Devil’s Highway #1

He puts a price on Clint’s head so high that every villain, merc and thug in the city is going to line up to take a shot. by Jeff Laetzel, Megan Turner, and Jeslyn Sebold.
Published by Jeff Kaetzel, 2020.
Luke 23:18-19 – “But the whole crowd shouted, “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!” (Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)” John 18:40 – “They shouted back, “No, not him! Give us Barabbas!” Now Barabbas had taken part in an uprising.” Mark 15:7 – “A man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising.” Matthew 27:16-17; 26 – “At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Barabbas. So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?…Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.” These few verses are all we know about the man named Barabbas. The story of who he killed and the rebellion he led are not part of the Gospel narratives. The only thing Barabbas is known for are his crimes. But how did he find himself in a position to lead a rebellion and take another man’s life? I have always been interested in the stories behind the stories. In other words, throughout the Bible we have characters whose stories are lost. Their lives, their families, their hopes and dreams are all lost to history. When we see them pop up in the Biblical narrative, however, it causes us to wonder about who they were. If their stories had not been lost, what would they tell? Zealot started with a simple question. How did Barabbas end up sentenced to die for insurrection and murder? From there, it developed into a thorough study of a revolutionary gureilla group known as Zealots. Zealots had one goal; to overthrow Rome by any means necessary. The study of Zealots in the First Century provided the perfect backdrop for Barabbas’ story. I understand that this story is simply that; a story. But imagine with me, just for a second, the life Barabbas lived. The struggles, the pain, the longing to see his countrymen freed from Roman occupation. Imagine pouring your life into a cause, just to have it collapse in front of you. Imagine coming to the crushing reality that you are going to be put to death by the hands of your oppressor. But then, at the last second, someone takes your place. Barabbas’ story isn’t simply one man’s story. It is all of our stories. The Gospel of Jesus is the story of how a Nazarene preacher took our place on the cross. We have all done things worthy of death, and yet, this first century man named Jesus has voluntarily stepped up and took our place. That is the story of Barabbas. That is the story of the Gospel. That is the story of us. May you be challenged, perturbed, and blessed while you read the story of Zealot. - The Goon #11

Rodger Langridge (Fred the Clown, The Muppets) & Mike Norton (Revival, Battle Pug) continue their Goon run with the third installment of Witch’s Brew.
