NeverQuest, a New Game, and some Hawks

I made a bit of progress today, but not in the areas I started focusing on. In particular, I again made no progress in EverQuest. That game seems determined to keep me from getting into the game during times I can actually play. So instead of waiting fruitlessly in a queue while I had time to play, I instead spent the time looking into Phantasy Star Online 2. We’ll see if that game is open for playing when I have time, but so far, it too is a rabbit hole of research to figure out. Finally, I roll back to an old standby that I know I can access at any time – comics. I jumped back into Hawkman as I am working my way through the DC stories to get to a point where I understand enough to read Dark Nights: Metal, which I’ve heard is a pretty good story.

Still No EverQuest

This is really starting to get frustrating, but I am not able to get into the game because every time I try to log in, I get stuck in a queue. I suppose I could really wait, but I don’t have 28 minutes or more to wait, I’d rather be playing a game or something.

In any case, maybe this weekend, I’ll be able to get into the game to see if I can run up to level 5 and start thinking about exploring a bit further than the immediate area around Greater Faydark.

Phantasy Star Online 2

Well, while I didn’t get into EverQuest again, I did have the opportunity to download Phantasy Star Online 2, and it certainly looks interesting. Actually, it looks a bit overwhelming, and I haven’t even gotten into the game yet.

One of the most significant issues I had was that I had to use the Windows Store, which I don’t think I’ve ever done before. While that’s not much of an issue, I was utterly unable to find where Micro$oft installed the game for me. I looked everywhere, and after about 30 minutes of digging and searching, I finally found it on my D drive. This is my data drive, which is fine for games, but it is a spinning drive rather than a solid-state. If I get into this game and see that I’m having problems, I’ll have to move it over to my C solid-state drive.

The other issue I rank into was that it mentioned very briefly that if I wanted to update my graphics settings that I would have to adjust some file. That was actually why I was looking for the installation, but now that it took so long to find where the files were, I forgot what file I was supposed to update. The bottom line is that I play on a laptop and have an external video card that I want to be using. Most games recognize this and switch over from my internal motherboard graphics, but it sounded like PSO2 was gonna require an update to a text file. We’ll see what happens when I finally get in-game.

With the game installed and everything, I decided to take a gander online to see about the classes in the game and immediately went down a rabbit hole. Of course, starting any new game is gonna involve a bit of a learning curve, but when I see references to be careful where you place you skills because you will NEVER be able to reset them, I get a bit worried and anxious.

So the bottom line is that I spent my gaming session crawling around YouTube and the interweb to find advice for class skills and builds. Hopefully, this investigation will pay off, and I’ll enjoy this game, but for now, I’m pretty much just getting ready to play.

Hunting for the Third Eye

Along with my investigation of everything to do with starting out in Phantasy Star Online 2, I dove into the next issue of Hawkman in my journey through the Dark Nights: Metal reading order.

Hawkman #2
By Geoff Johns and James Robinson

While the first issue lays out the background fairly well, Into the Sky sees a bit of a detailing of what this story arc is all about.

Oliver Evans, curator of the Stonechat Museum of Art and History, is in a fight with a guy named Kristopher Roderick, who is looking to ‘buy’ the museum at a cut-rate price. Hawkman and Hawkgirl are helping Mr. Evans to save the museum and find Daniel Evans, who may have information about the murder of Hawkgirl’s parents.

The follow Daniel to India, where they encounter Shadow Thief, Tigress, and Copperhead, who are also looking for the archeologist but are working for Roderick.

Battling jungle trails, mercenary missiles, and fisticuffs, everyone shows up at the same place where an ancient temple is supposed to house the Third Eye of Shiva. Before anyone can get into the temple, though, a missile causes a cave-in, and all hell breaks loose.

This was a good continuation of the story, and I’m looking forward to the third issue.

It’s a Wrap

I suppose I would consider today a success since I installed a new game and did some research about it in preparation for playing this weekend. I suppose I’ll have to figure out what ‘ship’ to join since I don’t really have a gaming group that I know plays the game. I guess I’ll have to research that too.

Along with the Phantasy Star Online beginnings, I was able to keep up my comic reading, and I enjoyed the Hawkman story.

So I think for the most part I am looking forward to more of what I got today other than the NeverQuest queues.
