To the Nth Degree
I recently finished off my reading of the Batman: Dark Knight, Dark City graphic novel and enjoyed the various stories of Batman. My ultimate goal is to read the backstory for Dark Nights: Metal arc and then get on with what I’ve heard is a great story in modern Batman, but it’s gonna take a while for me to get there. Next up on the reading order is Hawkman: Endless Flight. This 6 issue spread is the bird’s entrance into the New 52 era of DC and while I’m not too familiar with what that means, I do at least know it is a thing.
A History Lesson
Hawkman #1
By Geoff Johns and James Robinson
This is my first introduction to a Hawkman book and I was pretty impressed. The story gives some good background for the characters, throws in plenty of action, and sets up a long term confrontation not just between Hawkman and some big bad, but also between Hawkman and Hawkgirl.
I certainly didn’t expect the complexities of Hawkman’s history to be front and center in the first issue I read but it was a good introduction to the characters involved and I appreciated how realistic they seemed.
It’ll be interesting to see if and how the historical aspect of the characters integrate with future issues, particularly beyond the archeological focus of this first storyline.
