Another World Disappears
I’m sad to report that a game I thought had lots of promise, was enjoyable during the time I spent on my journey there, and was looking forward to getting back to at some point is shutting down.
Maplestory 2 Closing Down
As of today – May 27th, 2020 – the Maplestory 2 servers are going offline and will not be back.
I didn’t get into the game too much and only knew about it because the MMO Book Club I was following earlier last year decided to make it the game of the month, but what I did play around with was pretty good. Sure, it did not grab and hold my undying attention, but not much does and I am truly saddened when a game is taken away from us.
It’s during times like this when I look at all the games I’ve played over the years to see which ones are drifting towards closure. I feel bad I didn’t hear about Maplestory 2 closing down until the day of closure and in a similar way, I am disappointed I did not spend more time in Wildstar as it headed towards oblivion.
Perhaps I should pay some attention to games like RIFT or Secret World Legends or Defiance (I guess Defiance 2050 was the ‘relaunch’ name) who I worry may be the next world that vanishes. As it is, I recently reloaded EverQuest on my laptop to spin around in the world of Norrath again. Perhaps I should have jumped to EQ2, but I figured old school might be worth a look…we’ll see.
In any case I worry for some of the games I’ve enjoyed throughout the years. I’ve already seen City of Heroes go away and come back and I’m estatic about that – maybe I should spend more time there?
I don’t know what the closure of Maplestory 2 means but it is a point in time to reflect on the worlds we’ve had the pleasure of adventuring in and I’m at least gonna scan through my old screenshots to reminisce even if I don’t jump back into games from years past.
