Injuries and Goodbyes
I suppose not everything is injuries and goodbyes today but it sure seemed like it as I was going through things. First off was my First Timers League in Out of the Park Baseball 21 where I received the bad news that I had a second starting pitcher go down with an injury. Then I learned that one of my favorite sites to go to for TV news has been shut down since January. But as I said, not everything is bad and I made some progress in reading DC Rebirth as well as getting my blogging process set back up the way I want it.
On the whole things turned out ok I suppose.

What if Everyone was Fast?
Speed City
Well, this is an interesting twist on things as the Speed Force has gone a bit crazy and imbued dozens of Central City residents with super speed. Not all these new speedsters are good guys in Flash #3 though and that just makes a lot of work for Barry and his new partner, August Heart. Fortunately, S.T.A.R Labs quickly builds a Speed Force training center to help out the newly powered citizens and the director, Dr. Meena Dhawan – also a new speedster – assists Barry as he tries to support the growing number of confused but fast people.
Another Injury
Well, I’m not so sure I’m on board for this season of my First Timer League any more. Somehow in the span of four games, 2 of my starting pitchers have gone down with injuries. This is just a mess. I suppose the game is supposed to simulate a normal season but this is kinda an extreme case. I mean, sure, the Angels have had their fair share of seasons filled with injuries but 2 pitchers down in the first 4 games? Come on! Especially when I am just learning the game.
ARGH!
In any case, I wasn’t even doing anything special with my pitchers – neither had pitched more than a few innings and they were not even to their first 50 pitches of the season when they were injured. AND these were the two new pitchers the Angels picked up this off season. So now I’m back to minor leaguers to fill in for the first month of the season and I’m grumpy.
I was just trying to start to understand how to handle scouting and the minor leagues and now I am screwed.
I’m seriously considering just running the next month of the season on automatic so I can see how bad things get. But more importantly, I can just put this season on the shelf and come back to it after I learn how to handle scouts and minor leagues and trades. Give myself a break from the immediate stress of having to take a crash course in those things and start a new season where, hopefully, I won’t be given 2 major injuries in the first four games.
We’ll see. I haven’t decided yet but I am gonna hold off on my highlights from the game until I calm down a bit.
Goodbye TV By The Numbers
It’s a sad day for me on another front as I learned that one of my favorite web sites is gone. TV By The Numbers has closed it’s doors. Actually, I guess it happened at the end of January but there’s been a few things going on that I haven’t been paying attention to all my normal web sites this year.
In any case, TV By The Numbers was a great site that covered the ratings of TV shows on a regular basis. They used to make predictions about what shows would be renewed or cancelled, and they introduced my to the concept of Live + 7 ratings. These special rating showed the impact of time delayed viewing habits and when I learned of them, I adjusted my habits. For shows I really enjoyed, I made sure to watch them within the 7 day window and sometimes even within the 3 day window for the Live + 3 ratings.
Regardless, I am sad to see that the site is no longer updated. I will miss the Cancel Bear that predicted when shows would go off the air, and I will miss the snarky comments for shows that had no right to be picked up were renewed for another season.
It’s a Wrap
So I guess things today have left me a little down. I’m sad about my First Timer League and the TV By The Numbers site but I did enjoy the Flash so all was not bad. I’m sure things will work out with Out of the Park Baseball and I’ll find another site for TV ratings so things are not too bad. I can even start up a new game of OOTP if I want to – no harm, no foul.
On the positive side, I did manage to get Scrivner hooked back up with Dropbox so I can transfer posts between my Mac and my iPad again.
