Short and Sweet
My ramble today is gonna be short and sweet primarily because I am at a bit of information overload. Earlier in the week I was party to the Civilziation VI Succession Game and suffered some analysis paralysis and today is only slightly different.
Today, I am overwhelmed by new information.
In the Succession game, I was dealing with a realtively known game since I’ve played Civ since the second version. Today I am trying out a new game with at least a similar level of complexity.
That game is Out of the Park Baseball 21.
Now, I’ve played fantasy baseball of many different flaovors over the years and this is somewhat similar. You build up a team of MLB players and try to defeat all competitors. In OOTP though, you actually take command of one of the MLB teams and simulate the season, trying to make the playoffs and become World Series Champions.
This could take a single season or it could take many…I’ve seen references to players that simulated more than 10 seasons and still never reached the playoffs.
In any case, I started out my first game as manager of the Angles of course. But when I say started out, I mean I created the new ‘First Timer League’ and watched as the databases were genereated and such. I even jumped to a few of the league and team pages to begin to get a feel for the information on each.
But I didn’t actually play the game.
There’s so much going on…so many possiblities that I really became stuck. I fiddled around with my screen capture software and looked up some of the players, but I was at a loss for where to start.
Oh well, I am gonna start soon. I just need to do a little bit of research first and then jump in. I think the best way for me to play this game is gonna be all-in. I just need to dive in head first and not worry about making mistakes. Mainly because I know I will make mistakes…and hey, there are highly paid professionals that have tried to make my Angels win the World Series for years that have failed (at least since 2002).
