A Run and Some Thunder
With the 2020 March Mammal Madness tournament over, I finally have a chance to ramble during Blapril. While I don’t have any perls of wisodm to pass on, I do take a look at the next issue of Thor: God of Thunder which I haven’t read in a while because of so much work activity and quarantining, and I also get outside to do some running.
Three Thors Sail the Galaxies
Thor: God of Thunder #8
The first seven issues of Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic’s Thor: God of Thunder have been really good and provide an interesting look at three different eras in Thor’s life. This issue continues that story as the three Thors work together to try to stop Gorr, the God Butcher. This guy is pretty bad ass as evidenced by all the gods he’s captured and enslaved throughout time. He’s been forcing them to build what he calls a Godbomb that will kill all the gods throughout universe. The three Norse gods can’t possibly let that happen and now that they are together I think Gorr should be worried. Oh yeah, and ‘young’ Thor meets his granddaughters and they kinda think he’s hot.
Overall, this was a pretty good issue.
Fitness During Quarantine
With all the self-quarantining and working from home I got going on, I decided to ask my doctor what he would recommend for staying relatively in shape. Actually, I asked if he would recommend running and he said ‘undoubtably yes’. As long I as I was observing the 6 foot rule he said I could go out running all I wanted. Well, I guess all I wanted would not really be that much right now, but I did get started on a routine to get moving a bit every day.
So far, I’ve managed to get out running each day this week and here are my mileages: 1.56, 1.63, 1.61.
I’be been going anywhere from 12:30 minutes per mile to 13:16 minutes per mile so I’m taking things pretty slow.
Unfortunately I’m not able to go down to the bay to run and have to settle with a little loop I have around the neighborhood. The beach and bays have been closed for the past couple weeks here in San Diego and even the baseball/softball park down the street has had it’s parking lot blocked off with police tape. Authorities really don’t want people gathering outdoors.
But even with impediments, getting out and running has been a lot of fun. I used to make sure to get in 10,000 steps a day but that seems like it was in another lifetime…now I’m just happy with the little run I get each day. Hopefully I’ll be able to extend things a little this weekend, but even with more time, I’m plannng on taking things slow.
I hope everyone takes the opportunity to get outdoors a bit even during this quarantine. Even though we locked down and self-isolating it’s important to get a bit of sun and exercise on a regular basis.
It’s a Wrap
The bottom line for my first actual ramble during Blapril 2020 is to get outside and get in some sun and exercise. Sure, I hunkered down inside my home to read the next issue of Thor but getting out for a run has been a lifesaver during this quarantine.
