Virtual and Safe Cons
Several Comic Conventions have been canceled or postponed lately, and the convention season is just getting started. With the craziness surrounding the Wuhan Flu, the Coronavirus, COVID-19, or whatever you want to call it, everything that involves more than a couple of people meeting in person is shut down. No sporting events, no conventions, no book clubs…nothing.
Into this void steps the Interweb and the wonderful ability for people to meet online. After all these years of people complaining that we have to get off our phones, get off the computer, and start interacting with people in real life, we are now in the opposite situation. Stay at home, get online, use social media, but for safety, do not interact with people in person.
Luckily the technologies are there so we can work, play, and interact online, and we won’t have to completely segregate ourselves from society while the virus thing works its way around the world.
With that in mind, I took a trip to Discord and found that Tessa over at Narratess is supporting artists online, and the Emerald City Comic-Con is going online at least for now.
Six Degrees of Narratess
Wandering around in Discord today, I saw that Tessa over at Narratess was promoting a post talking about supporting your favorite artist, and I felt it deserves mention. With the postponement of Emerald City Comic-Con and Wonder-Con, there are a lot of artists and creators that are not gonna be selling and promoting their creations at these events. Tessa’s highlighting of these artists is pretty cool, and I am gonna check out some of the links she listed off and see if there’s anything I’d like to purchase.
Emerald City Comic Con Online
Along with the sites, Tessa mentions there’s also a sort of virtual comic-con going on for retailers who were supposed to be attending Emerald City Comic-Con. The can be found over at #ECCCOnline. The site also mentions that Emerald City Comic-Con is gonna be moved in time to August 21-23. There’s an Artist’s Alley online, a Dark Horse Comics sale, a Funko Virtual Con, and more. I’m gonna head over and check them out as well.
It’s a Wrap
With all the craziness caused by the Coronavirus/Wuhan Flu/COVID-19/ whatever you want to call it, it’s nice to see some semblance of normalcy with comic events. Hopefully, these virtual activities will help out these retailers and keep them going until the pandemic threat has passed.
Also and most importantly, I hope everyone stays healthy, avoids contracting this virus, and recovers quickly if they get it.
