It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
It’s that time again…Spring Training baseball, March Madness, and then there’s always comics. I still love the end of February and March for all the great things that swirl around these dates. Everyone is a contender in the Spring of baseball. Everyone has hopes of being the Cinderella team in the NCAA bracket, and of course, the mammals are all getting prepared for their battles. And there are always good comics to read these days…every week brings another batch and the Grimm Noir issue this week is pretty fun.
Nightmares Can Be Real Sometimes
I read through Fantastic Four: Grimm Noir #1 today, and it was pretty good. I really enjoyed the art, quick little story, and the focus on Ben Grimm was nice to see. I also thought the bad guy in the issue, which was the first time I’ve seen him, was a cool concept.
D’Spayre was a formidable foe for Ben Grimm’s baby blues, mainly since we usually see him using brawn over brains in his battles.
Mammal March Madness
In animal and science news, the brackets for Mammal March Madness 2020 dropped yesterday and I’m trying to make sense of the matchups.
The categories of animals this time around are: Tiny Terrors, Cats-ish vs. Dogs-ish, Double Trouble, and AnthropoSCENE.
I’ve gotta look further to see what the basis of each of these brackets are all about, but for now, I wanted to get the rankings out there if anyone wants to play along.
The whole thing can be followed at Mammalssuck.blogspot.com, and it’s pretty cool to follow.
10 Spot
In Spring Training, the Angels sent 12 batters to the plate and scored 8 runs in the 3rd on their way to a 10-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants today, and I’m just bummed I missed the inning. I tuned in to the game in the 4th and got to hear the announcers talk about the fireworks, but it was nothing like being there.
Catcher Jason Castro and first baseman Matt Thaiss each knocked the ball outta the park, and it seemed like everyone was hitting the ball today. It was nice to see on the video replay.
The other thing I was impressed with was the pitching. Dylan Bundy threw 2 solid innings striking out 3, and the rest of the staff held the Giants to 3 runs on 8 hits, so I think they did pretty well.
This is the type of game I expect will happen many times this season for the Angels, and hopefully, they’ll be on the winning side more often.
It’s a Wrap
Baseball, mammals, and Ben Grimm…not bad for a day I finally got to put work aside and have some fun. Hopefully this weekend will give me the recharge I need to head back into the work week on Monday.
