A Riot of Top Comics
After my rant on sports yesterday, I figured I should try to put a more level-headed ramble together for today. Yes, I’m actually trying to get back into the habit of rambling every day. We’ll see how it goes since I’m still working at posting about the comics I’ve been reading, but I know I have more to talk about than just comics. I also want to get back into looking at games here as well.
League of Riot
Jumping back into rambling about games was made a whole lot easier as I looked at the blogs I follow yesterday and say Izlain over at Me vs. Myself and I. He’s got a post discussing his return to Riot games and how they seem to keep pulling him back in with anniversaries, different gaming modes, and the fact that they have quite a depth of lore in their games. It doesn’t hurt that Izlain has a group of friends who frequent the Nexus.
As for my experience with League of Legends, I usually find myself jumping back on board whenever there is a season reset. Things typically are fun as I’m running through placements and cruising through the lower levels of ranked play – for whatever reason, I’ve never seen anyone start a season ranked very high or at least as high as they finished the previous season. There’s always a leveling curve as things get reset at the start of the season, and I’m usually happy to fight my way back to where I think I belong. Sure, it’s never really high, but each season I’ve seen myself end up higher and higher even though it’s still nothing to brag about.
Along with the rank reset, I have a love-hate relationship with the number of changes that Riot throws at champs every couple of weeks. So many things are modified, and a champ that worked well one day may be completely useless the next. It’s frustrating at times, but I suppose it causes players (me included) to try out other champs.
In any case, I’m working my way back up the ladder and will casually keep at it until I get frustrated as I usually do.
Marvel Picks
With the new releases Marvel came out with on Monday, I figured I should point out the issues I was looking forward to getting into. Actually, I’ve bee running through the old Claremont run of X-Men in order to get a better back group for the House of X/Powers of X titles. These are just starting to come out on Marvel Unlimited, and while I own the issues from when they first came out 6 months ago, I am enjoying reading through them again – they really shake things up in the mutant world, and as I’m gaining insight through the older Claremont issues, I’m enjoying them even more now. Powers of X #2 was just pushed out on Marvel Unlimited, so it’s not too late to get started on these issues on that service.
Another series I’m enjoying is The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. I’ve read a few issues here and there in this series, but I have to say, every book I’ve read has been excellent. With that in mind and the fact that the series is coming to an end on Marvel Unlimited soon, I figure it’s time to dive into the whole thing from the start. Issue #47 came out this week on MU, and I think #50 is the final issue in the title.
Finally, my other big pickup this week was Silver Surfer: Black #3. I have to start at number 1, but the Surfer has been a favorite of mine ever since a buddy introduced me years ago. Silver Surfer was his favorite back then, and I agree, he’s had some pretty good runs over the years that I’m happy to be able to read through Marvel Unlimited.
So there are my top 3 of the week – Powers of X #2, Silver Surfer: Black #3, and The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #47 – all on Marvel Unlimited for your easy reading.
It’s a Wrap
So I have to say I’m glad to see that Izlain is playing League again, and I’m interested in his venture into some of the other games Riot is supporting as well. His post yesterday has inspired me to get back into rambling, and I’m hoping to stick with it a while, too, maybe even to the extent that I will jump back into my Six Degrees posts as well. Who knows. In any case, I was glad to see his post, and I’m happy to be able to write about my gaming again. This, along with my top comic picks from Marvel’s Unlimited new releases on Monday, makes me feel pretty good about getting back into rambling, and I’m looking forward to seeing how far I can take this again.
