This issue is a lot of fun. It sets up an interesting world where warriors and wizards, vampires and demons, and even demigods fight among each other for power.

We start out with an introduction to Red Sonja as she battles the wizard, Kulan Gath, but we soon meet Jade, Purgatori, Mistress Hel, Evil Ernie, and Roger Something. They’re all pretty compelling characters, and they end up pretty much in a massive battle royal tying to obtain the necklace of Gath. The idea is that Sonja killed Gath, and in order to prevent one of his acolytes from resurrecting him, she threw his necklace in the ocean. Apparently, someone found the piece of jewelry centuries later, and this interesting cast of characters is determined that the power held in the necklace will be theirs.

The introductions are great, the characters are all unique, and I’m looking forward to seeing how thing whole thing plays out. The art by Jonathan Lau is well done, and the colors are crisp and vital. This looks like a series I can really get into with interesting mythology and clever dialog.

I rate this issue a Read and can’t wait to see what the second issue brings..
