Bloodline Part III
This series has lost some steam. I enjoyed the novelty of the first issue and felt it built an interesting scenario for a new Spider-Man that had a lot of potential. The second issue fleshed out that promise, and I was starting to enjoy the direction the book was taking as they presented a current-day Parker learning that he has spider powers. This third issue seems to have lost it’s way though.

While I was glad to see Peter show back up in the story, he was quickly ripped away from the emotional argument he was having with Ben only to be replaced by a drunk, senile, and from my point of view, poorly written Tony Stark. What was a touching and well-told family tale turned into a silly and disconnected romp through Iron Man’s depression. The pseudo-origin of Cadaverous was acceptable, but…maybe it would work better in a movie…I just can’t stand Stark’s dialog or Cadaverous’ manner of speaking.

On top of that, I’m left wondering what happened to the developing Spider-Man story I was enjoying?

With two issues left in this limited series, I’m hoping Abrams can turn things around, but with such a low point in the middle of a 5 issue run, I’m not holding my breath.

Verdict

The opening of this issue with Ben and Peter arguing and Aunt May trying to help both is the saving grace of this issue but it doesn’t save it enough for me to rate this issue anything above a Skip.

My recommendation of the first issue can be found here and the second is here. This comic can be found on Comixology or at your local comic book shop.
