Warhunt!
This issue picks right up from where the previous one ended as we join the X-Men as they are falling outta the sky after being shot down twice by Count Nerfaria. With the situation dire, Cyclops takes charge and orchestrates a safe landing for all concerned, but now the team has to break into one of the most heavily secured military bases in the country, get past the Ani-Men, and turn off the Doomsmith Device.
While I’m sure the X-Men have the abilities that will let them achieve their goal, I’m not sure they have the time to get it all done. We’ll see as they jump into action with Nightcrawler teleporting, Storm creating a flood, and the whole team working together to defeat the Ani-Men. It sure is a good thing they took the time to practice working together in the Danger Room.
Unfortunately, the whole team did not sync up perfectly as we still see a conflict between Thunderbird and Cyclops, and it looks like this is an issue that may not be resolved due to the unfortunate ending of the issue.
On the whole, though, the team showed good coordination for only having been together a short time, and I’m looking forward to seeing how their relationships grow in the series. Maybe I’ll even figure out the source of my dislike for Scott Summers.
Verdict
This story was a slight step down from the first Claremont issue, so I’ll only rate it a Read, but it’s still a good issue, and I can see the building blocks for the future of the X-Men.
