The God Butcher, Part Two of Five: Blood in the Clouds

In this issue, as with the first, we see Thor in three different eras of his life. The majority of the issue focuses on a time many years ago where we see a Thor who has not yet earned Mjolnir and is instead wielding his axe, Jarnbjorn to take on the gods of the Slavs. Instead of a godly battle though, he finds the gods have been already killed. With his anger rising, he seeks out whoever did this and runs into the God Butcher and a pretty intense battle ensues. Both Thor and his opponent take some pretty significant damage as we learn that the Butcher has been killing gods for quite a while.

After a battle that leaves Thor knocked out after falling from the sky, we flash forward to the present day where we see a hammer wielding Thunder God on the trail of the God Butcher and finding world after world of gods that have been murdered. Beyond this, we see an aged Thor in the future, fighting as the sole survivor of Asgard against the minions of the Butcher.

Obviously this God Butcher is a pretty powerful foe and is a significant challenge for the young Thor so it’ll be real interesting to see how the more experienced Thunder God deals with him as the story progresses.
