Disillusioned Padawan

Obi-Wan and Anakin #1

Writer: Charles Soule
Artist: Marco Checchetto
Colorist: Andres Mossa
Letterer: Joe Caramagna
Published by Marvel Comics, 2016

This is another issue (similar to Obi-Wan Kenobi #1) that highlights the growing pains that Obi-Wan and Anakin go through during the course of learning to be master and padawan and I think it really starts to point out the idea that Skywalker entered the order at an advanced age. Sure Anakin was a less than a preteen when he started training but he had already formed some pretty important ideas about the way of things before Qui-Gon asked Obi-Wan to train the youngling.
The prime event of this issue revolves around a distress signal that is received from a supposedly dead planet called Carnelion IV. After crash landing on the planet, the Jedi must rescue the occupants of an airship who quickly turn from victims to aggressors as they pull weapons on Kenobi and Skywalker. These events are actually secondary to the revelation that Anakin is considering leaving his training. Apparently he disagrees with the idea that the Jedi don’t enforce order across the galaxy and instead are a tool of the Senate. Will Kenobi be able to convince young Anakin that the Jedi are teachers and guides rather than an army that dictates their beliefs around the universe?

Verdict

I rate this issue a definitive Read.
