A Recommendation for King Arthur
Once & Future #1

I picked this issue up as soon as it hit the shelves in August and I was not disappointed. Once & Future #1 strikes a prefect blend of the supernatural, historical fiction, and world building to make for a very enjoyable comic. With a little bit of Raiders of the Lost Ark and a little bit of Buffy the Vampire Slayer this comic sets up a world where an 80 year old monster hunter drags her grandson on a fantastical quest to defeat the forces of evil. I’m not sure why Gran left the rocket launcher in her weapon stash, but the stick she gives to Duncan does a pretty good job of fending off the first mythical beast they encounter. Things only get more interesting from there as we learn that the “archaeologists” that stole a scabbard in the early pages of the issue are in fact trying to resurrect King Arthur.
Beautifully drawn and well paced by Dan Mora, Kieron Gillen has crafted an interesting story that has long term potential and action packed panels on every page. I’m definitely excited to see where this series goes and rate it a Must Read.
