DC Universe New Weekly Releases October 22, 2019

DC Comics started to release new comics to their DC Universe platform about a year after they enter circulation as floppies. With that in mind, I decided to list off those released each week as I do for Marvel Unlimited. The DC releases come out on Monday just like the Marvel comics but since they are pushed to their site in the evening I figured I’d publish their list on Tuesday…
Here’s the new stuff I’ve found this week that was released October 17th, 2018:

Top Comics This Week

10 new comics released today compared to 14 last week.  Looking at Comic Book Roundup which aggregates a bunch of review sites, here are the top issues from this batch of comics. Two issues reached the level of my criteria this week (rating 8.5 or over with more than 3 reviews).

  • Justice League #10
By Scott Snyder and Francis Manapul.
THE ROAD TO “DROWNED EARTH”! When Wonder Woman learns that Cheetah gained new powers and killed the Greek sea god, Poseidon, that sets Aquaman off on a search for answers, bringing him into conflict with an entity known as the Flood, a herald for long-dead ocean gods with an ancient grudge against Poseidon, Atlantis and, well, everyone else on Earth. Who are those guys? Some very big fish-and you know what big fish do? Eat smaller fish like Aquaman and his Justice League buddies!
  • Justice League Dark #4
by James Tynion IV, Alvaro Martinez, and Raul Fernandez.
“The Witching Hour” part three! Everything the Justice League Dark thought they knew about Wonder Woman and Hecate has proven to be wrong…and the Parliament of Trees is about to pay the price! Hecate knows this world isn’t strong enough to resist the Otherkind, so she’s going to burn it down and replace it with a world of her own…starting with that ancient grove!

Number Ones

There were no NUMBER ONEs this week.

Ongoing Events

There are no clear additional starting points the week so instead I wanted to highlight an couple of ongoing events that look promising.

Drowned Earth

  • Aquaman #41
by Dan Abnett, Vicente Cifuentes, and Lan Medina.
From the pages of JUSTICE LEAGUE, the road to “Drowned Earth” starts here!  Aquaman is missing-and the world has gone to hell! With Arthur imprisoned by Black Manta, Queen Mera is left to deal with the arrival of an alien armada aiming to punish the Earth for the sins of Atlantis. As the cosmic tides begin to rise, Mera finds herself in a fight for her very life when the flood unleashes new horrors of the deep!
  • Justice League #10

The Witching Hour

  • Justice League Dark #4

Concluding Issues

Some stories have been told and transform into something new. There were 3 series that completed a story arc this week.

  • Batman #57
by Tom King and Tony Daniel.
The KGBeast isn’t working alone. As the Cold War between Batman and the Russian killer heats up, Batman’s nose for mystery gets to twitching when he suspects there’s more to the KGBeast’s attacks than initially thought. Not only does this tie back to the court case Bruce Wayne sat on involving Mr. Freeze, there’s another villainous Gotham ghoul in play-but whom?
  • Green Lanterns #57
by Dan Jurgens and Mike Perkins.
And after that, it’s Hal Jordan versus the Cyborg Superman for all the marbles in the heart of Coast City! You might recall that the last time Cyborg Superman visited that town, things did not turn out well…
  • New Challengers #6
by Scott Snyder, Aaron Gillespie, V Kenneth Marion, and Sandusky Flores.
Final issue! Now that they’ve uncovered the face of their true enemy, the New Challengers must band together to stop the unstoppable-a reawakened space god with unlimited power, weaponized to tear reality apart! Their borrowed time is just about up-will our team of heroes be able to save the very fabric of reality as we know it?
