A Sporting Weekend

This weekend features a bunch of sporting events so I figured I’d take a look at a few of them today on this 23rd day of Blaugust.

MLB Players Weekend

I don’t know where I’ve been the past few years but apparently MLB has been doing these players weekends for the past couple of years…this is the third time around. While I’m not really a fan of the black and white uniforms – I think the black uniforms look too much like the umpires – I am really touched by outpouring of love for Tyler Skaggs.

The Angel pitcher who died last month at the age of 27 is being honored by everyone in baseball this weekend with a number 45 on their jersey. Skagg’s number 45 has been around a lot this year since he passed and i find it a nice remembrance of him. Some players who were close to Tyler are going further and I think it’s all awesome. I just wish he could be around to see how many people he’s touched.

College Football Begins

The NCAA Football season kicks off this weekend as well and this year we have a different preseason #1 than we’ve had in many years. For the past few years, Alabama has held the #1 slot beginning the year…and usually at the end too, but this year. We see Clemson at #1. Bama is at #2 followed by Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio State to round out the top 5.

I’m so excited for College ball since the pros simply grandstand and politicize the game as they rake in millions. For my money, NCAA Football is much better than the NFL and I’d rather go to the beach on Sundays while watching the games on Saturday.

It’s a Wrap

That’s gonna be my weekend…watching NCAA Football and black & white baseball while I play some Wakfu and FFXIV. Not bad for relaxation and while all the NFL fans are watching their 3rd and 4th string QBs throw to their bench warmer WRs, I’ll be watching games that actually matter.
