My Fair Lady
Mrs. Redshirt and I were flipping around on the television yesterday and came across My Fair Lady on TCM, one of our favorite musicals from the mid 1960s. I’m always astounded by the number of classic songs this production introduced and so I started browsing around the inter webs for information about the movie.
One thing that surprised me was that I was unable to find an entry from Roger Edwards over atContains Moderate Peril for the movie. I’d love to hear what he thinks about this movie good or bad.
Another thing that I stumbled across was the AFI top 100 Actor list where Audrey Hepburn is listed as #3 among the female stars. I can definitely agree that she deserves to be in the top 5 but then I see Marilyn Monroe at #6 and Fred Astaire at #5 and I wonder what the criteria are for this list. These 2 were definitely influential in film but I wouldn’t place them so highly in the list of top actors in Hollywood.
Oh well…perhaps I’ll throw together a look at the movie sometime or Roger will put together a much more thorough review, but either way, I enjoyed the movie and finding out some bits of trivia about the stars.
Marvel Unlimited New Release Monday
As usual, Marvel released their new additions to their Marvel Unlimited service today and I take a look at the new releases from February 13th, 2019.
This week I’m looking forward to checking out a bunch of new Marvel issues but my interest is particularly piqued by the following 3 titles…
- Marvels Annotated #1
by Alex Ross and Kurt Busiek
The original Marvels looked at the superheroes of the time from the point of view of normal people. It shined a light on the innocents that sometimes are affected by the actions of superheroes and villains. We’ve seen this displayed in movies (Batman vs. Superman) and TV shows (The Boys) and it definitely resonates. It’ll be fun to see where a current version of this goes. - Avengers: No Road Home #1
by Al Ewing, Jim Zub, Mark Waid, and Paco Medina
Al Ewing is knocking out outta the part with his Immortal Hulk so I gotta give anything he’s got his hands on a shot. The other 2 writers aren’t too back either. - Ms. Marvel #38
by G. Willow Wilson and Nico Leon
I’d read this but I feel like I’ve gotta catch up first. The series has been great up to the point where I’ve read and I don’t expect it to fall off so I’ll put this here and get to it when I catch up on the back issues.
As usual, my new release post will be coming soon.
Don’t try to Relax with a New MOBA
Ok so yesterday I was frustrated with the League of Legends ranking system and the fact that games with AFKs and Trolls are treated just the same as those with a full compliment if serious players. True to my word, I jumped off that game and into DOTA 2.
One thing to note…don’t expect to relax jumping in to a new MOBA. I was completely confused and realize I have a lot to learn about DOTA in order to even get a handle on how to play. Least of which the camera did not follow me around as it does in SMITE or LoL. This caused me no end of trouble as I could not figure out where I was, where my minions were, or where my teammates were. There’s definitely gonna be a learning curve here and that’s good…perhaps it’ll help me focus on my MMO pursuits.
It’s a Wrap
I think the moral of the story is…watch a movie or read a comic if I want to relax, don’t try out a new MOBA. Regardless, I think there is plenty of promise in my playing DOTA so I’m gonna keep with it, just as a focused activity rather than a relaxing and casual activity.
