The Road to Blaugust Day 3
I suppose the big news today in Blaugust 2019 is that Chestnut has put together the Twitter List for all the people to follow participating in the event.
Beyond that, there’s been some question as to when Blaugust starts. I started publishing some hints about my workflow a few days ago since this week includes the 1st of August. No one has to worry about missing out on awards or accolades if they haven’t started already though, I just got an early start since I’m usually posting on a near daily basis.
The bottom line is that Blaugust starts in August. And I’ll change my headings to reflect that this is “pre-Blaugust”.
Continuing to Build my Toolset
On Sunday I mentioned how crucial Evernote is to my blogging workflow and I followed up with MindManager (or at least mind mapping) yesterday. Today I take a look at a relatively newer addition to my toolset, Scrivner.
I had heard of Scrivner for quite a while and always thought it was focused on long form writing. If you wanted to write a novel or a screenplay, Scrivner was the tool for you. But then I read a post about someone else’s workflow and I realized I had to try it out.
That was in December and I’ve been integrating Scrivner into my workflow ever since. Needless to say, I think it fits well and am happy to have it in my tool belt.
The Queen
I’m not sure if she represents the pinnacle of power in the Checquy or if she is 2nd in command but regardless, Lady Linda Farrier is not a woman to be messed with. While Chapter 10 of The Rook is pretty short, it definitely sets the stage for the emergency meeting the Rooks called.
New Release Tuesday
DC actually releases new comics to it’s DC Universe platform on Monday but they show up around 9pm so I usually wait until Tuesday to see what they’ve pushed out. I’ve got my eye on a few issues and will be posting about their full release a bit later.
The comics I’m looking forward to are:
- Flash #51 by Joshua Williamson and Scott Kolins.
Flash War comes to an end and in this issue the implications are laid out. Somehow with all the Rebirth stuff I am finding that I really like Wally West as Flash. - Action Comics #1001 by Brian Michael Bendis and Patrick Gleason.
Well, this one is a must read not only for the fact that it kicks off the second 1000 issues of such a classic comic, but also because Brian Michael Bendis has come to the title. I’m not too familiar with Bendis even though I’ve read more Marvel than DC but I’m looking forward to seeing what he does in this series. - Justice League Dark #1 by James Tyrion IV, Alvaro Eduardo, Martinez Bueno, and Raul Fernandez.
This issue picks up where Justice League: No Justice left off and it looks to be a fun series as Wonder Woman, Zantanna, Detective Chimp, Swamp Thing, and Man-Bat journey into the magical corner of the DC Universe.
Of course, there are many more that I’ll mention later but these are the few that struck my eye at first glance.
It’s a Wrap
Less than 2 days until the first day of Blaugust and I’m glad to already be seeing increased activity in the Discord, on Twitter, and all over the Blogosphere. I hope people are enjoying my segments talking about the tools I use and hopefully they give people some ideas on how they can build a workflow that fits their style.
I’m also happy to be progressing solidly through my Web Chronicle of The Rook. With the 10th chapter I’m just shy of a quarter of the way through and this is certainly an exciting and fun read. And I’m enjoying stepping through things in the chronicle since it makes me slow down my reading and savor every moment.
And speaking of savoring, I am definitely looking forward to reading up on some of the DC comics I highlighted. They may be almost a year old but that just means I’ve got a better idea of which ones are gonna be good based on other people’s reviews. And the fact that Brian Michael Bendis is starting his Action Comics run gives me hope that this could be a classic in the making.
Morning Ramble | The Road to Blaugust Day 3
Really liking these posts, and super curious about how you are using Scrivener in your blogging workflow.
I have used it for longform (mostly during NaNoWriMo attempts), but it’s been a while!
Since I tend to ramble, Scrivner works great since I can put each rambling section in one file or folder and then compile the whole post, combining all the sections together when I’m done.
