Rambling about Blaugust, Evernote, and a Robot Chicken
Blaugust 2019 Day 1
Today starts the official 2019 Blaugust blogging event and I am excited as always to see what the blogosphere provides us this year. I suppose this is kinda a birthday for this blog since I started up in 2012 during the NBI – Newbie Blogger Initiative – and that was the precursor to the Blaugust celebrations. Sure that occurred in May but it’s still kinda the same event since we’re welcoming newbies into the blogging community once again.
Blaugust Prep Week
With the kickoff to the month a little early we’re looking at 5 weeks of Blaugust activities starting with Prep Week. As Belghast has indicated, this week we’re looking to get a good start to roll into the month and provide some hints, pointers, and suggestions for people trying out blogging for the first time. I won’t say I’m the best blogger or even a very good one but I’ve kept up with it because I enjoy it…not because of the fame…which there is none.
I think that’s one key piece of advice that I can throw out there: just like all professional activites – sports, acting, writing, science – there are very few, of the millions who try, who achieve fame. If you’re blogging to try to become famous you’re most likely gonna be disappointed. But if you blog because you enjoy it, you’re gonna be much more fulfilled.
For me, I blog for the same reason I game – I enjoy it.
I know I’m not the best writer or topping the leader boards in League of Legends, or even flying a Titan in Eve Online (after all these years), but these hobbies, gaming and blogging, are things I do for fun.
Sure, sometimes they can become a grind when I have writers block or have to kill what seems like a million rats to get to the next level, but I keep coming back to both because I enjoy them.
I hope you enjoy blogging and have fun during this Blaugust event. This is a good community that might be a bit battered and bruised by all the gamer gates and MeTooing that’s been going on over the past couple of years but it’s still a nice place to hang out.
And of course, before I go too far, I’ve gotta ramble…
Tools of the Trade: Evernote
First off I’m gonna point to a post I’m gonna publish later today about a tool I use all the time for blogging and pretty much everything I do. I use it on an every day basis and I’m almost certain I have at least one instance of this app open on my PC, Mac, iPad, or iPhone at all times.
That app is Evernote.
I can’t say how much Evernote has helped me in blogging, in organizing, researching, writing, and just keeping track of things. It’s a wonderful tool – sure it’s not perfect and I could offer plenty of suggestions for how to improve it, but it’s one of the best tools I can recommend for blogging.
I’m gonna finish piecing my thoughts together, it’s nothing profound or anything like that, but l’ll put it out there a bit later today.
Robot Chicken @ SDCC 2019
It’s happening! Season 10 is upon us! To mark this historic occasion, Robot Chicken returns to SDCC ready to celebrate ten seasons of animated insanity! They’re talking teaser trailers, brand-new clips, and a panel consisting of RC creators and top-secret panelists! Co-creator and executive producer Matthew Senreich is joined by executive producers/co-head writers Douglas Goldstein and Tom Root, actor/writer Breckin Meyer, writer/director Tom Sheppard, and wow! a special video message from Seth Green! Moderated by Keith Crofford, senior vice president of production for Adult Swim.
The main thing I take away from this panel is I’m never gonna look at the Starbucks logo the same again. (But you’ll have to see what I mean) Actually, these guys are funny and put together quite a few great skits. With their 10th season coming soon I always feel I’m missing out because I dint watch this show regularly. I know when I do watch it though, I enjoy it for a couple of skits and then it goes a bit too far and I put something else on. Perhaps if I only watched it 5 minutes at a time, I’d get through all 10 seasons.
It’s a Wrap
There you have it…my first post for Blaugust 2019. I’m hoping to get something out each day but I know real life often intrudes so I’m not gonna beat myself up if I miss something.
I hope you all enjoy the month and meet your goals.
Most importantly, welcome to the community of Bloggers.
