The Boys Should Be Safe At Home
Robbed at Home
It was the 15th inning and the game was tied…actually, the Baltimore Orioles scored 3 in the top of the 15th to go ahead and the Angels just scored 3 to tie it back up. And on the same play that tied the game, David Fletcher tried to score the winning run.
In my view, he was safe but I’m not an umpire nor am I the “non-biased” committee in New York that watches replays – even if they happen at 4am.
I think the umpire was tired and missed the call.
I think the New York folks were tired and missed the call.
So what I look at is the deformation of the glove. Typically in the physical universe that the baseball game was played in, when one object touches another they interact. In this case, the glove touched Fletcher’s body. If the glove and the body touched gently there’s a possibility that you would not be able to see a deformation of either to reflect the impact of the touch. This was high speed and no effort was being made to be gentle.
And when you look at the replay, you can clearly see that the glove deforms when it impacts Fletcher. But why if there is a clear deformation of the glove that occurs AFTER Fletcher’s hand touched the plate, is there no clear indication that the call was incorrect?
Yup – the hand touches the plate BEFORE the glove deforms from impacting the player. Clear as day and proof that even with replay human beings are still capable of making mistakes.
The umpire was tired and made a bad call.
The reviewers in New York were tired and made a bad call.
The Angels should have won the game right there – instead they gave up 2 more runs the next inning and couldn’t even manage a hit off a center fielder throwing 50 mph.
The Boys on Amazon
This is gonna be an interesting series that just dropped on Amazon Prime today. Here’s the trailer…
I’ve read the first volume of the graphic novel and enjoyed it but I’m not sure it’s a good fit for television as it’s definitely not your standard superhero type story.
With the darkness that (in my view) has turned viewers off many of the DC movies, I wonder if there’s a place for this show when at least the graphic novel focuses on the bad that superheroes can do when they’re not actively being super. I mean it makes some sense that there will be those that while they’re not evil and villainous, will still take advantage of their powers to benefit themselves.
We’ll see how this plays out and while I did like the comic, I’m not sure it’s for everyone.
Bless The Harts
I went to the Bless the Harts panel Friday at Comic-Con and I was gonna comment on it here but I’m just too swamped…perhaps I’ll get to it later.
