First Days, Tedious Politics, and Hope
There are good reads and there are bad reads…The Rook chapter 3 turns out to be a pretty good one since we start to meet some of the other characters in the story. Who can be trusted and who is out to kill our hero? We’ll have to see as the story plays out. As for bad reads, I went back to find out why I stopped reading through DC Rebirth and found a dreadful story. Hopefully there aren’t many more of these in Rebirth or I might start being more selective in my DC Comics reading. Finally, I am excited to see the Angels are home after a nice road trip. I’m hoping they continue their good play and carry a strong couple weeks into the All-Star Break.
Heading in to Work, The Rook Chapter 3
The situation Myfanwy finds herself in was laid out well in the first and second chapters but now after a weekend to gain her bearings, it’s time for her to head into work and to actually meet some of the people who might be trying to kill her.
For now I’m keeping things rolling on Tuesdays and Thursdays and publishing my thoughts as posts throughout the day as I get through each chapter. I hope you’re enjoying them.
I’m also gonna put up a master list now that I’m getting more than a few chapters in. That should help keep things a bit better organized.
In any case, today we see how things go when Myfanwy heads in to work…
Pushing Back to .500
No Angel game yesterday as the team came home after a 6-5 road trip that saw them peek their head above the .500 mark for the first time since April. Hopefully they’ll get back there during this next homestand and stay above it for the rest of the season.
As bad as the Movie?
Suicide Squad Special #1 – War Crimes by John Ostrander, Gus Vazquez, and Carlos Rodriguez. This issue was one of the primary reasons I stopped going through the DC Rebirth reading list since it was so full of BS politics I really was disgusted with it. It’s almost a year later and I am getting back into the Rebirth timeline so I can gain a better understanding of more recent DC events like DC Metal and The Year of the Villain so I came back to give this a re-read. It’s still got the politics and I think the story is even more ridiculous because the real world events it bases itself on are that much further removed from current reality. In any case, I don’t recommend this issue unless you are a masochist or a completionist.
