The Angels Could Use A Goon
Enjoying The Goon and Some Good Baseball
The Goon has been around for over 2 decades and I’ve never read any of his comics…that will definitely change after I picked up this first issue of his new run. It was a pretty good story and I enjoyed the fun banter between him, his crew, and the monsters he beat on. And speaking of beating on, I’m hoping the Angels work up some energy to beat up on the Dodgers and finish off their 20 games in 20 days span with a couple of victories.
20 Games in a row ends with the Dodgers
The Angels finished off the 18th game of their 20 game streak of consecutive days and their record fell to 9 and 9. I’m actually kinda pleased they’ve made it this far in this effort with an even record but the final 2 games are against the best team in baseball. They get to play the Dodgers for a pair at home starting tomorrow.
First they face off against one of the hottest pitchers in the majors in Hyun-Jin Ryu. This guy is 9–1 with a tiny 1.35 ERA. He’s been even better in his last 6 games giving up only 3 runs and striking out 38. This’ll be a tough guy to break through against.
Things don’t get much easier on Tuesday when Kenta Maeda takes the mound. He’s 7–2 with a 3.48 ERA and with the Dodgers
sporting over 100 HRs, the 3rd best batting average in the majors, and the top MVP candidate in Cody Bellinger who’s hitting .355 and has already smacked 20 home runs, this could be a tough 2 game series.
Hopefully the Angels will shrug off their Sunday loss and step up their game against their cross-town rivals. Regardless of what happens though I’m looking forward to some good baseball.
Fighting the Supernatural is Fun with The Goon
The Goon #1 A Ragged Return to Lonely Street by Eric Powell and Rachael Cohen. Published by Albatross Funny Books, 2019.
The Goon, Frankie, and Roscoe wind up back in the town they started their adventures from but things aren’t all joy and happiness even though they killed the Zombie Priest and ran the monsters outta town. Instead it turns out all the creeps showed back up as soon as the Goon’s crew left and things are worse than ever.
I’ve never read The Goon before but it’s fun reading about his house hunting with a realtor for the damned, and his encounter with Baby Galahad the East-Side Ghoul. I enjoyed it so much I’m looking forward to Reading the rest of the arc.
It’s a Wrap
The bottom line is that I hope the Angels take some notes from The Goon and beat up on the Dodgers over the next couple of games. Both they and The Goon certainly provided me enjoyment over the weekend and I’m sure things will continue with them.
